I'm usually one of those guys who says you can't outdo the original especially in music. But I was posting in another thread. About the original "Dawn of the Dead" and how unintentionally funny it was the first time I had seen it. Then it dawned on he that I liked the remake of it.

What movies did Hollywood do a better job of the second time around? Mine are:

Dawn of the Dead
The Thing

Prom Night, When a Stranger Calls, The Fog and The Omen.

Psych!

In all seriousness, the only remake I can think of that wer worth anything was Insomnia.

Of course you could say Wizard of Oz, but not sure many people have seen the original to compare it.

You mean seen the remake? I would wager that more people have seen The Wizard of Oz than The Wiz. Or that remake/reimagining Sci-Fi just did.

To answer the question, I'd say Dawn of the Dead and The Thing for sure. I actually liked the remake of Assault on Precinct 13, but I know I'm in the relative minority there (and anyway, the original was a reimagining of Rio Bravo anyway...one big circle).

That's about it. Generally a remake is doomed from jump street. Because they always want to remake the GOOD stuff. You gotta remake the stuff that had potential but for whatever reason (script, technology available at the time, etc) fell flat. One of the reasons why I think a remake of Logan's Run wouldn't be a complete disaster.

I'm not sure if you consider them remakes or not, but the recent Batman series kills all the other ones.

Actually I am referring to the 1925 version of Wizard of Oz.

I also really liked the new Dawn of the Dead.

Glad they remade The Departed, and The Fly, also loved Dawn of the Dead.

Oh, wait, can we include foreign remakes like The Departed? I could add a few (including The Departed)...

Like Twelve Monkeys...though to be fair, that's more of a "take the basic concept and reaaaaaaaaally run with it" than a straight remake of La Jatee.

Sure, there is only one rule in this thread. That it's a movie and it's been remade. I don't differentiate between foriegn and domestic. :beerchug1:

I'm gonna go with The Fugitive.

I'm gonna go with The Fugitive.

That wasn't a movie remake...because if we're gonna go with TV shows made in to movies I'd say that, and raise you The Addams Family.

I'm not really a big fan of remakes, just because something always gets lost in the retelling as far as storyline.

But for the sake of an answer for this thread, I'm going to go with Scarface. Definatly prefer it over the original Black & White, It's without a doubt in my top five of favorite movies.

Red Dragon (the first of the Hannibal Lecter series).

So much better than Manhunter.
