Oh well I guess I can't expect Mora to hit a homerun at every at bat.
Why is Ramon so high up in the batting order? Does he have a history with Lester or something?

Has the 50 millionth fan come yet?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing.
How crazy would it be if it's within 5k of 50 mill after tonight? How about 1k? That would be insane.
I'd probably consider camping out overnight downtown if it was close enough.:D

Come on Guts. You can't let .644 OPS Jason Varitek do that to you.

This may not be Guthrie's night -- a double, 2 HR's and 4 fly outs so far in 1.2 IP. He's not getting the ball down. (Or at least, that's what I infer, as I'm only following GameDay.)

Not so sweet 2 homers by the Sux.
They havent announced anything, so I can still win it tomorrow! Hopefully it doesnt happen during the game.

He's not getting the ball down at all. Just about every ball has been put in the air.
In the first, the Pedroia fly out was to the warning track and the Ellsbury out was a high fly ball.
In the second, obviously there were the Bay and Varitek homers (both weren't even close to staying in the yard), but all 3 of his outs were fly balls.
He still has time to settle down and get the ball down, but the fact that 9 of the 11 guys he's faced have hit the ball in the air isn't promising.

Lester has a nice Cutter. He got Mora and Millar out with it.

Nice catch by Ramon leaning over into the dugout.
So far Ellsbury/Pedroia are 0-4. That's the first part of the recipe for beating BOS. Unfortunately, we've failed at another part and given up 2 HR's to Bay and Varitek. Plenty of time to come back, though.

Guthrie's stuff is pretty filthy, isn't it? Everything he throws seems to have some kind of action on it. A very Mark Clear-esque breaking ball, with that tight, late drop on it.

He was out running on the field earlier and is expected to hit off a tee in the next couple of days and then progress from there. They are getting him a protective piece for his ankle, but he's feeling good.
He's so anxious to get back that apparently he keeps calling Richie Bancells trying to get him to give the team the okay.
It's good that it doesn't appear as if the O's will put him in unless he really is okay. But I can't wait to see him play again, he is really fun to watch.

I thought Palmer said he was jogging a bit... could be wrong, but yeah. Either way, he's eager to get back and is doing okay from what I can say.
I don't see what the point is of shutting him down if he's fully healthy and ready to come back. He's young, let him come back but don't rush him.

Who do you think the most fun Oriole is to get hammered with?
I'm thinking Huff. Obviously for the Bubba and the Love Sponge incident, and because Baltimore is a "horsecrap" town, he know's where the hell to party when he's in other cities. And especially cause he's been hitting so well this season, I feel like he'd be willing to celebrate each homer or RBI with like 10 shots. And he's making good money and seems generous so I'm sure he'd buy.
I'd say that Guthrie is the least, cause doesn't his religion forbid drinking? But he'd be the coolest one to hit up Starbucks or something.
Not sure if any of this is making sense, I'm butthoused right now and I'm the only one of my buddies not working tomorrow so I'm drinking by myself watching the game. Let me know what you think.

You must not have ever complained about Trembley, or any member of the team not performing well then.
I generally enjoyed his posts, he is very intelligent and articulate. But you couldn't question the team or the manager in his eyes because fans are just silly folks from the peanut gallery that have no clue what it's really like. Which begs the question, why be a member of a message board named "Orioles Hangout" then?

This was the post that started it:
Dear Matusz Family,
On behalf of Oriole fans everywhere, I would like to apologize for about half of what you read around here.
Please understand that we're mostly just dorks with computers.
Thank you.
ps: I hope Your Boy gets signed and into the system Real Soon Now. God knows we need him. If he's as good as people say he is, he could be starting for the Orioles before you know it. In fact, the timing of the team-in-general means that it could work out with him becoming a famous "Boy Wonder Goes To The Playoffs" story. However, I understand about the whole agent-thing, so no hard feelings about that. (Personally, I think it's penny-wise and pound-foolish for him to delay, but what do I know? I'm just a dork with a computer.)
And then preceded to continue arguments, and made a political reference when someone asked about Frobby's whereabouts. Just typical RShack being condescending.

I don't remember Lester's FB being this good in the past. He's been throwing in hard with excellent command. If he can continue to do that, he'll easily develop into a very good, top of the rotation starter (good chance at becoming an ACE) and a menace to the O's in the future.

Good Q.
I wish Manfra wd stop singing Bay's praises. It's like he's broadcasting to all the Sux fans in the park.

Seriously Rocky Cherry can shoot himself. That's garbage. Way to keep us in the game pal.
Was really not that bad of a pitch...it just broke right into the power spot of his bat.

I think that is just poor managing by Trembley... Cherry should not be in these situations.

Well if Cherry can manage to get through this without giving up another run then I'm still optimistic.
Why Not?
08-18-2008, 09:15 PM
The Red Sox are the best team in baseball at working counts and tiring out pitchers, and more often than not their hitters get the close calls...
I bet a LOT of pitchers have their career highs in walks vs. Boston. They are some patient MFers.
Was really not that bad of a pitch...it just broke right into the power spot of his bat.
Something Bradford hardly ever did. Wish we had him in there now to coax the DP grounder. I wonder how he's been doing with Tampa. In fact, I'll look it up now.
JTrea81

Well I suppose it's refreshing that Trembley would rather test his pitchers than try to get a win, at least that's what I hope he was doing...

Yea, he was a good pitcher for the O's this season.
I was never a fan of Cherry, but his breaking pitches can be nasty, and that homer was more of Jason Bay being an oriole killer and being on fire.

Did you see the 3-2 slider he struck Miguel Cabrera out on with the bases loaded the other day?

He's got to be more consistent. He's got a great slider, but he constantly gets hammered because he's just hanging pitches...
With all the bullpen pitchers we have, Cherry doesn't make the cut for 2009 because Ray and Baez will be back...

It's gonna be a long week if we don't have JJ available until Sat...
Bradford with the Rays:
4 games, 1 W, 0 L, 4 and 2/3 IP (incl. a two-inning victory), 0 ER.
Cherry out, lefty Castillo in against the lefty Ellsbury. With the bases loaded. Ellsbury .273/.343 vs. lefties, .266/.328 vs. righties.
