They need to sit down with this kid and find out if he's hurt. He's throwing straight fastballs at 89 mph. I know he's throttled back for more control but you don't throttle back that far. And look how many curve balls he's throwing.

Palmer has got a point. Daniel has lost a lot of velocity on his pitches...perhaps something is wrong with him.

you have got to be kidding me. All of this stems from him getting into terrible counts then throwing get me over strikes that get HAMMERED. He was concerned about throwing strikes, so he tried to baby one over to Damon and hope for a take. The take ended up on the friggin flag court.

His 2 seamer has alot of movement on it, but he leads with his fastball and they have been sitting on it first pitch.

Yup. Terrible as Castro is with the bat, you really can't afford to take out his glove and replace him with this bum for a pretty marginal offensive upgrade.

... and Castro could have looked better than that striking out on bad pitches.

Arbitrary substitutions. Let me revise that hes more like 1 for 3 with a push for bringing in Luke to PH. His 1 is for Sarfate, missed on Walker and Cintron

Make that 2 for 4 with Ramon's single

I am no fan of Cintron's defense but I think it is a reasonable move to try to get someone on base with a little speed in front of Ramon. (Now, I don't think he should have used Scott so early and I wouldn't have put in Walker but, hey, that what makes armchair managing so much fun!)

He wanted Cintron and Ramon to bat instead of Castro and Quiroz. Makes sense to me.

If the O's were leading, I think he'd leave Castro in for defensive reasons. But when you're behind, you need the better bat in there.

That's all well and good if you're downgrading the defense from good to average or average to fair, or if you're talking about downgrading the defense at a corner position, but we're talking about going from a very good defensive shortstop to a guy who has no business in the world playing shortstop on a high school team. If you're going to structure your roster so that you have no true backup infielder who can actually play the middle infield positions somewhat competently, you leave yourself with very few options. It's so incredibly frustrating how often this happens. At least on September first we should get Fahey back and/or Blake Davis, so Cintron can be used as a marginal pinch hitter and then immediately replaced with an actual shortstop.

I was wondering that as well. At first I just thought it was dirt!

Marte is looking like a HOFer.

God, I hate the MFing Yankees. My son and I were at the game last nite and almost got into a fight with a bunch of their arrogant fans. We were watching the game from the bullpen area and had been standing at the front viewing area that was roped off and my son went to the bathroom and when he came back some arrogant Yankee fan tried to push him away from our spot. Next thing I know after me and my son stood our ground he came back with a bunch of his buddies and was acting like a jerk. We told them to take a hike or we would take it outside and they finally left after making a scene. It was ridiculous for this to happen at our park.

Holy hell! For those of you with DVRs, watch where the umpire set up on that 3rd strike to Payton. He's lined up with the chalk on the inside. That looked like a strike cause he set up over the catchers shoulder....who was set up inside. That was a lousy call.

Watched it again. The umpire set up dead even with the chalk of the batters box. He's practically behind Payton. Bush league umpiring right there.

I need some Orioles Magic here, this series has been demoralizing.

Little Big Man is the last hope. For the record, I'm pulling out all stops to get us back in this one. Orioles Magic is blasting in the Tackett Residence as we speak.

Unacceptable. In a 1-2 count, you can't be taking borderline pitches. Markakis needs to learn this.

Mr. clutch stands there again with the bat on his shoulder. Twice in this game he comes up close and late with the go ahead and game winning run and K's. And posters here want to call him an all-star type player. He's not even close. Even though it was a bad call you don't stand there and not at least foul that pitch off and instead risk the umpire ringing you up. Just disgustingly stupid.

That pitch wasn't borderline.

Since when is a pitch 6 inches off the plate a borderline pitch?

Although I know this isn't the case, Markakis looked like Manny when Manny "boycotted" by taking three strikes from Rivera. OK, so maybe strike three was a shade outside, but come on. What was he waiting for? Rivera only throws one pitch, granted the cutter is one of the best pitches in baseball history. Frustration got the best of me while watching that.

While I agree in that situation he shouldn't take borderline pitches, the ump needs to uncross his eyes. Hopefully someday the umps will be held accountable for doing a bad job. That last pitch was no where near a strike.

Especially when you have an umpire who has been expanding the outside of the strike zone all day. Nick and Brian are our best all-around hitters, but both of them have a maddening problem with being stubborn in the face of bad umpires. Just imagine how good the two of them could be if they cut down on the called strike threes. :(

That said, it's unacceptable for a game to end on a called strike that wasn't a strike. Markakis could have kept the ump from costing us the game, but Rapuano's incompetence, not Nick's stubborn adherence to the strict strike zone, was what really cost us. :angryfire::cussing:

Let's be honest here. That was way too close to take. The floating strike zone makes it even more so than usual.

I am willing to be brutally honest here and I believe Markakis is the biggest choker in the clutch on this team right now. He is especially prone to do it against the tougher competition like the Rays, Yankees or Redsox when the game is on the line. Great players relish those spots and Markakis looks like a deer caught in the headlights far too often. Hitting early on in non-pressure situations is one thing, hitting when the game on the line is another. Markakis excels at the former and sucks at the latter.

On the Yankees telecast which I was watching they didn't show the view from above, but from the normal view it looked a tad outside, but definitely something where Nick needed to swing in that situation. Given the inconsistency of the umps the entire game, he should have swung and not taken any chances.

Why is it BS. Markakis I believe has only had two more game winning rbi in close and late situations this season than the much maligned and demoted to the minors Luis Hernandez! He sucks in the clutch!

This is hilarious -- Mr. Stats-don't-much trots out two highly suspect numbers to prove his point. Are you pulling our leg, Oldie? :scratchchinhmm:
