Welcome back Jones! Homers off Byrd his first at-bat. Although it only took Byrn 8 pitches to get through the inning.

Welcome back Adam Jones. It sure is nice to see him back in the line up.

Olson is throwing a lot of balls...

Same old Olson. He needs to have a happy place, I think.

He's obviously capable of throwing strikes but he's terrified to do so.

It's disturbing.

Skeletor

three walks already

Wow. Nice comeback Olson. He's good when he actually gets the ball over the plate.

Yeah, I think Olson's struggles are all in his head.

Walks are the pitching equivalent of GIDP. Absolutely no upside to them.

At least Olson fought through it...

Where are this organization's strike throwers?

To be fair the ump is not giving him the inside corner, There were at least 3 pirches that were definitely strikes.

Just opened up gameday for the game while I'm sitting in class. Good to see Jones back in the lineup and a homerun in his first at bat tonight

As I write that Varitek takes Olson deep to tie the game at 1

SteveA
09-01-2008, 07:31 PM
Well, we wanted Olson to throw strikes.

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 07:31 PM
Ok now back to back homers against Olson. How does Olson look pitching? I see he has 11 strikes and 17 balls, not a good ratio

ChrisAF79
09-01-2008, 07:32 PM
Olson needs to mix up his pitches better. He can be way too predictable at times.

Throwing strikes is okay, but you can't be right in the middle of the place with an 89 MPH fastball either...

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 07:42 PM
I'll take runs anyway we can get them

Olson isn't a victim of the strike zone or the ability to control his pitches, he's just a bad pitcher with minor league stuff. Whatever the future holds, I hope he's not part of it.

baseballnelie

All 3 outs that inning to Markakis

What? A bad pitcher with minor league stuff? Olson has good stuff, and he was able to command it in the minors. Once Olson gets over his fear to throw strikes, he will be fine.

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 08:00 PM
How many outs in a row can Markakis get? 4 and counting...

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 08:01 PM
As I hit enter it ends at 4 haha

Big Mac
09-01-2008, 08:05 PM
Olson has 4 K's through 4 IP. That's good to see.

We need to get Byrd to throw some pitches. I'm going to be embarrassed if Byrd pitches a CG against us.

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 08:09 PM
Olson has 63 pitches through the 4 innings. Now Byrd has just 51 pitches through 5 innings.

baseballnelie
09-01-2008, 08:15 PM
Very efficient inning by Olson, only 5 pitches

Seriously Trembley, playing for one run by bunting one of your best hitters in the 7th inning on the road?! With your bullpen? Are you on crack? :cussing:

Big Mac
09-01-2008, 08:34 PM
Well, Payton sure played that ball off the monster well.

09-01-2008, 08:44 PM
Does anyone else think Jones should've been over there backing Payton up in case the ball did come off the wall like that ?

As much as the results of Olson, the thing that really gets me is there's no real progress. You expect to see a kid get better, more consistent. There's none of that with Olson.

09-01-2008, 08:47 PM
