Holy crap I'm pumped for this game! I realize all it essentially is is adding more songs to the original Rock Band library but they've got some good ones on here.
At first glance, I can imagine that "Battery" would be an extremely difficult song to play on drums (which is the only instrument I play in the game).
I wonder if I will be able to play the songs from the first Rock Band on the new game or if I'll have to switch the discs every once in a while...

You can transfer all the songs from Rock Band 1* onto the Rock Band 2 disc, so you won't have to switch disks.
(*with three exceptions: Enter Sandman, Run to the Hills, and Paranoid. The artists wouldn't give permission to re-use those songs in Rock Band 2).

That's odd considering Metallica's "Battery" will be featured on Rock Band 2...

I'm steamed that they are coming out with better/wireless drums. WTF am I supposed to do with these big, dumb, wired drums if I buy the cooler new ones?

I'll buy one of either Guitar Hero 4 or Rock Band 2. Probably Rock Band b/c thats what I already have for PS3.
And I hope you can buy just the disc without the new peripherals, although I'll probably pick up the Wireless Drums.

I want the new drums too although I'm nto sure if they will sell them separately from the guitar and mic -- I imagine they will.

My guess would be not at first, but after a couple months they will. Gotta take advantage of those people who have to have a game the minute it comes out.

Here are just the drums:

Comes out next week.
I hate that they keep improving the instruments, because I'm the type of moron who has to have the best, so I keep wanting to upgrade...
Does EBGames take in instruments for trade?

I wonder how that will work from a DRM perspective? I mean, could I load my RB1 songs and then trade in the game? Or will I need to flip disks in and out?

I imagine they do, it's another peripheral. I mean they take controllers and head sets and all that so I'm sure they take the instruments as well.

I will be buying these and taking my old drums to Gamespot. As for importing the Rock Band 1 songs onto Rock Band 2, I'm gonna have to read up somewhere on how to do that given that I'm not necessarily the most gifted person when it comes to electronics.

It appears that they (Gamestop/EbGames) don't take the drums. I'm tapping the Nerd Network to find out who might and how much they give you...
I'm also looking forward to this.
Another side note about transfering the RB1 songs to RB2. It costs $5 in Microsoft points to do the transfer. And I'm pretty sure you won't need the RB1 disc anymore after the transfer.
I can't believe this is only 3 days away.

Played this game yesterday. Quality stuff. I've only played a handful of songs so far, so I can't say yet whether the music selection is better or worse than Rock Band 1. Just by looking at the titles of songs, there are a lot of tracks I don't recognize, but I guess we'll see how they sound.
I'm glad that they installed a Battle of the Bands feature this time. That was a glaring omission from the first game.

Ok so I've had this game for a week or so now. Thoughts:
-Great soundtrack -- larger and more entertaining than RB1.
-Not too happy that they don't have just a regular solo tour (I believe that to play solo you need to star ta band and do the World Tour feature anyway as the sole member of your band).
-I do not own any new peripherals but from what I've read the new drums are pieces of crap.
-Overall the producers seemed to go with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" routine. RB1 was such a success that they did very little to change the overall format of the game -- not sure if that's good or bad, but they probably could have just as easily released the 80 or so new songs as downloadable content on XBox live for $20 or so and I probably would have just gone that route.
-Either way, I recommend this game. The Rock Band series is so much fun and if you're like me and essentially played the first one into the ground, it's worth picking this one up.

I actually like the new drums better than the old ones...assuming that they aren't broken. The ones my roommate bought didn't work at first, but he looked up online how to fix them. It only took a couple minutes-- he just had to tighten a screw in one of the drums and then they worked fine.
