Well I'm certainly not going to hold that against you Luke. Is Jackson underhanding the ball or something?

With the Birds this year, the question is can we hold the lead.

I hate to say it, because I really use to like the guy, but I hope Thorne isn't brought back next season. I'm not quite sure how much longer I can take of his constant mistakes in the booth.

Yeah the last time I tried to call a homer it didn't turn out well either. It was Rondell White's blast last year against the O's. In Bedards last start with the O's.

After Bedard had left the game though.

The fourth and fifth innings have not been kind to us this September.

GeorgeD
09-24-2008, 08:33 PM
I know Ramon didn't cause that whole issue, but he didn't make much of attempt to stop Liz's throw and he didn't chase after the ball with a great deal of enthusiasm. That's at least the third time I've seen a similar play.

OsEatAlEast
09-24-2008, 08:34 PM

Ori-Al
09-24-2008, 08:41 PM
Ramon can't call a game. Almost all fastballs until it was too late. First three innings, there was some mixing of pitches, and it worked. Come the fourth, heat, hat, heat.

Not that there's any excuse for not throwing strikes with a lead, especially a big one. That goes for starters and relievers (who always give up a hit and/or a wild pitch to the first batter they face.

Now will the offense quit again? It finally showed up early on, after being AWOL for almost a week.

a few seconds later, reality set in. This team makes me want to vomit in a bag and throw it on the field.

O's tried a double steal. It didn't go well. Huff took off for second, Navarro threw down there and Markakis dug for home. Iwamura threw the ball back to the plate and got him by a mile.

Yeah, I didn't like that call at all. Of course, on the next pitch, Salazar hit a bouncer to short that would've been an inning-ending double play anyway.

What a pathetic throw from Roberts to Hernandez. He can throw it 90 feet in the air, can't he?

Big Mac
09-24-2008, 09:15 PM
That was a HORRIBLE relay by B-Rob.

He caught the ball just barely in the outfield grass, the throw was off-line and it bounced about 4 times.

Why try to steal a run when you have 1st and 3rd and one out and a decent hitter up? With 2 outs, I could see it, but this is a poor percentage play with 1 out.

Moose Milligan
09-24-2008, 09:20 PM
Not only that, but it looked poorly executed. Nick has good speed and it looked like he had a slow jump.

I should also mention Luke Scott's poor decision to try to get to 3B on his bases-clearing double in the 1st inning. With nobody out that is also a very poor percentage play.

Are we even sure it was a double steal or that all parties knew what was up?

It reminded me strongly of last year's most ridiculous moment -- when Mora bunted into an out with Corey Patterson standing bewildered at third base.

Oriole play just deteriorates daily.

Well, DT complained that he didn't go first to third the other day.

So, he has a manager that preaches aggressive baserunning but when they get out, they complain.

But then when DT calls a double steal in a bad situation, its the players fault.

Again, DT being a hypocrit.

He wants it both ways.

He was right about not going 1st to 3rd the other day. The double steal was obviously the manager's call and it was stupid.

The number of outs makes a big difference in what you do. You don't make the 1st or 3rd out of an inning at third base. Only go if it's safe. Scott was out by a mile and that was a very bad judgment.

Could this situation get any worse? Eleven consecutive losing seasons, these completely non-competitive Septembers, embarrassments at the Yard. It has to get better. This is as positive as I can be.
