Jay Glazer is reporting that Mike Nolan is out as Head Coach of the 49ers. Word is that Mike Singletary will be taking over.

Mike Nolan has confirmed to FOX Sports that he has been fired by the San Francisco 49ers. Nolan was informed by team brass late Monday afternoon.

It is assumed that current defensive coordinator Mike Singletary will assume Nolan's coaching duties. There were reports earlier today that Nolan would be fired after the team's next game Sunday against Seattle, but ownership instead decided not to wait.

Billick will be a top candidate for that job in the offseason IMO.

Double right, turbo right, double pump!

Let's wedge it, let's wedge it.

ESPN is reporting that the 49ers have fired Dick Nolan. Reports are that Mike Singletary will be named as his replacement. When will the Bengals fire Marvin Lewis?

He very well may not but if SF didn't offer him a longterm deal he would still take it. A guy that has never been a HC can't be picky about his head coach opportunities.

Tell that to Jason Garrett and Josh McDaniels

I'm glad to see Singletary get a chance. I wonder if he'll wear a suit and I wonder if Vernon Davis will get some freedom.

Man, first Mike Nolan now Dick Nolan ;)

How Marvin Lewis stills has a job is beyond me.

Another Billick assistant getting named head coach though.

Some credit has to be given for having a few coaches come from underneath him.

Can we officially stop making claims that our defense has been great due to the coaches now? Or does Rex Ryan have to get hyped-up into a head-coach job and fail, too?

Holmgren is said to be the top choice this offseason.

All I can say is thank god! I was wondering which team would turn it around first, my Orioles or my Niners and it looks like both are going to do it...

Firing Nolan and his Big Nickel defense is a great start!

What does failing as a head coach have anything to do with being a great defensive coordinators?

No doubt the players have more to do with the outcome than the coaches on the defensive side of the ball, but still, Lewis and Nolan were two very good defensive coordinators and Ryan is one of the best in the biz.

I guess Cam Cameron is a bad OC because he failed with the Dolphins last year then?

Failing as a head coach has nothing to do with how one does as a coordinator. Which is my point.

It wasn't Nolan's fault.

If they could actually get a decent QB they would be fine. O'Sullivan is throwing picks this year like its his day job.

Not sure if you were watching the games or not, but Nolan's defensive schemes were horrible. JTO wasn't that great and has been inconsistent, but the defense was supposed to be a force this season. And the defense is supposed to be Nolan's specialty.

Just like Lewis in Cincinnati.

That's really my point, that it's the right players and generally the right management from the front office that built us the defense we have. Not Lewis, or Nolan, or now Ryan. That doesn't mean that those three didn't/haven't helped the defense through scheming and on-field management, but that those abilities don't necessarally lead to a good head coach.
