Billups and McDyess for Iverson.
The Nuggests are reportedly going to buy out the contract of McDyess.

Hmm...I guess it makes sense for the Pistons financially in the future because AI's contract is up after this year and they can go after a big free agent. Doesn't really make them better this year though IMO.
Seems like the Nugs are taking on a lot of money here

I don't see how AI will fit in with the Pistons. Billups seemed prefect for them. But, this is a move that the Nuggets needed to make. I'll be interested to see if Detroit changes it's style of play with AI on the court.

This is a terrible trade for the Pistons save for the fact that Iverson's contract is up after this year. With him and Rasheed coming off the books, expect Detroit to make a big play for someone like Carlos Boozer.
As for Denver, they were about an 8 seed before this deal and still are. Carmelo will probably score more now with Billups at the point.

Gotta believe that was the underlying point here. Who else are the big free agents for next year, that are big men?
They love Rodney Stuckey, and he was the heir apparent to Billups anyways. This gives them Iverson for this season, but clears up tons of space for them to go after a big man free agent next summer to put with Stuckey, Rip, and Prince.

They just extended Maxiell as well.

JR Smith can now start at the 2 and he's the one to see the real scoring bump. And Anthony Carter can play less.
Their AI/Anthony carter backcourt was horrible defensively, and AI and Melo never worked because they both needed the ball so much. And if i didn't mention it, AC plays less minutes.
The Nugs aren't a title contender yet but they got a lot better.
BTW, Billups just put up 17.0/6.8/2.7 with a TS% of 61.9% on the slowest paced team in the league. Maybe the Pistons know something but he appears to have a lot left based on recent performance.
Along these lines, this (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&id=2696062) is a piece Hollinger wrote for insider 2 years ago detailing that PGs who are bigger, have good health and are good jump shooters and passers tend age well, as opposed to the more stereotypical PGs who are smaller and rely on quickness in getting to the hole as their primary attribute. He suggested the pattern fit Chauncey pretty well.

Maybe its lip service but Rex Chapman, who basically runs the Nugs, said they intended to keep McNugget. link (http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=10454)

I agree...I think this a great trade.
I would rather Billups on my team than AI, especially as a leader/point guard.
Its not even really a decision for me.
Now, Melo can go back to being the man and Billups and Smith can form one of the better back courts in the league.
For Detroit, this is all about them being able to compete now and, more importantly, lose salary next year and be able to bring in new talent.

I saw a report that says McDyess is going to be bought out by DEN and re-sign with DET. This report conflicts with others I saw.

It looks like they will buy-out Dice.
Nuggets' plan, a source close to the team said, is to buy out the remainder of McDyess' two-year, $14.6 million contract and waive him, which would save them money. With Iverson making $20.8 million and Billups in the second year of a four-year, $46 million deal, the Nuggets are now likely to have a payroll within $1 million of the NBA's luxury tax of $71.15 million. Before all of Denver's maneuvers during the past few months, its payroll was about $88.5 million.
In other words, the Nuggets believe they have gotten better while cutting costs.
