I'm trying so hard to be positive. I really am. But it's hard to be hopeful heading into the Winter Meetings next week.
We whiffed on working out an extension with Markakis. We'll meet with him again late next month which is a positive; however, the word "impasse" is always a cause for concern.
It seems like a BRob extension or trade is in limbo, which is a very bad sign, IMO.
For two guys, who want to play (*ahem*) for the O's so bad, there's been no rumors as of late about Teixeira or Burnett's "interest" in Baltimore. And now that the Braves are offering Burnett a 5-year deal, you can say "adios" to him.
Also, we whiffed on trading for Greene, who would have been our first serviceable SS since Tejada. And worse, for those of you who liked the rumored Pie-Olson deal, now there are rumors that the Pads think they can hang onto Peavy, so you can kiss a deal for Pie and Cedeno goodbye as well.
With the exception of the snazzy new road uniforms, there's not much to be excited about right now. Is there something I'm missing? I feel like for every step forward, we take two steps back. :(

I too think they should make a move just for the sake of action rather than wait to make smart moves as they become available.

I know exactly how you feel. It's like watching paint dry. Hopefully the patient approach eventually will yield the results we want, but in the meantime it's pretty unbearable.
Baltimore Orioles 2009 "Please just do something"
Not as catchy as "Orioles magic" but I'd put the bumper sticker on a visible spot on my automobile.

I realize every off season we have the highest of hopes...but I feel like a lot of folks really want something done this off season...and I can't blame them. But I think a lot of people are in for a big let down. I went into this offseason with very low expectations and I am sticking to it for the main reason that AM can only do so much with what he has. Thin positonal depth in minors, just enough pitching depth in minors so can't be trading them, we're not attractive to any decent FA's, no one wants the older junk on the roster, i.e. Ramon, Walker, Mora, etc..
There's just not a lot that can happen...and I know some folks will say then AM needs to be more creative but look, he's a GM not a magician, we need to be patient for another year or so, yes that sucks but that is reality.
Izturis, Byrd(yuk) and that's about it folks....that's all I see happening. Obviously I hope I am way wrong but I certainly am not banking on it.

This will make a great canidate for the opening day shirts.
I share your frustration Lex, but I agree with Mackus's sarcasm.

Things are going to get done. How many things? Not sure. Be patient. MacPhail is trying to do his work intelligently and for the best interest of the team for the long run. Not just do something, like a poster said, for the sake of doing something. I am confident that we'll get some things done at the winter meetings and have a good team in place for spring training. MacPhail knows what he needs to do and Angelos is sticking by him. The rebuilding started last year and he's already stated that we'll be taking a more different approach this season, with targets in free agency. Hold on. :)

Remember, Andy MacPhail is the guy who when asked what he would like to tell the fans after he didn't make any trades at the deadline last season, "at least I didn't do anything stupid".
Andy works at his own pace. He's shown now several times in both trade negotiations and player negotiations, it's a deal he really likes or it's no deal at all.

I understand your frustration but Greene was not the answer to our shortstop need. He's just not that good. I would have traded Olsen for him because I'm not that high on him but I'm very happy we didn't trade any of our young pitching prospects for him.
Although I like Cedeno, if Isturis is willing to come to the O's, and that may be a big if, I would be OK with that as a short term solution.
Time to come down off of the ledge and relax.:D We have a long cold winter ahead.

Plus... it feels like a lot of us around here are wanting "bigger" moves. There haven't been, really, any "bigger" moves by any team just yet... We just gotta see how it settles... and then complain if we need to. :)

Happens every year, Mr. Lex. Don't wish for action for the sake of action. You won't like those results.
Sometimes the best thing for the hot stove yips is to stop visiting a fan site. Unfortunately. I so very rarely hit the O's Talk before anything's happened. And when I do I tend to stick to discussions involving current personnel and not any sort of signing/trading discussion.

You know what the best part of the baseball off-season is?
It coincides with the regular (and in many cases post-) seasons of pro football, college football, pro basketball, college basketball, hockey...

Does anyone else look at how much smaller the end of the word is and think it should say "Baltiless" instead of Baltimore?

:agree:
I tend to stick around in the Hangout Club, Music, Movies, TV and Other Sports forums on the OH during this time. I'll usually pop in Orioles Talk and scan thread titles to see if anything has happened, and maybe browse a thread or two, but I'm not spamming F5 or anything.
I usually get a little antsy about the whole thing where it looks like we haven't done anything, but there really hasn't been much activity at all across baseball. It certainly comforts me a bit that it's not a situation where it seems like every other team is wheeling and dealing except us, there's just not much going on right now. Hopefully AM can position the club nicely during and after the Winter Meetings.
****, we've waited how many years for a winning team? What's a few more months or so to see some improvement? :laughlol:

BTW maybe we should ask McLovin to make a social group for us, along with an "I hate Jermaine" group from last night.

Relying on Microsoft's grammar checker is kind of like running a paper through a translation program and calling what comes out Spanish. :p I actually just had a public official who I work with try to do that for a public notice of a hearing that needed to be advertised in a Spanish newspaper. :eektf:

Well, now I seem to find myself in a group that doesn't dig the new road jersey along with McNulty and Blueberry, but they're getting all snippy and using big words that I have to look up and the whole thing is falling apart just because somebody in the Angelos family believes that all words should start out in really, really, big type sizes and end up in really, really small ones and I'm not sure how much longer I can remain in this group without having to have a schism over my inability to keep up with their use of words most people don't use.
