I want to get my bro-in-law a Wii game for Christmas, but I know nothing about it. I think he'd dig a sports' game...what game would you guys recommend? Madden? Thanks!

The only sports game I have for the Wii is MLB Power Pros, which was discussed in another thread here somewhere but I can't find it now. I think it's awesome, but it has some significant differences from the "regular" sports games.
To begin with, the players look like cartoons. I think the developers figured you can only go so far in trying to make players look real, and imho they always look a bit zombie-fied anyway, so they went the other direction and did caricatures. The thing is, they look great! You can tell who's who pretty easily.
More importantly, the game play is terrific and very realistic, though that depends on the difficulty setting I suppose.
The different game modes are what you'd expect -- play a single game, play a season, act as a manager / GM / player, draft your own team, create your own team... It also has a mode called "Success" which is fun -- you start as a college player and try to get drafted. It's a bit silly in some respects -- you have to spend some time studying, dating, and working at a job in addition to improving your skills -- but it becomes pretty addicting.
I'd highly recommend it.

Not technically a sports game, but I hear Boom Blox is very good. Same with Mario Cart Racing.
The former comes from an idea by Steven Spielberg. You can also tell that George Lucas had no say in the making of the game because the ending doesn't suck. (Sorry, still bitter over Crystal Skull)
The game I hear talked about the most for the Wii is No More Heroes. It was fun but I didn't go past the first level.

My roommate has a Wii and has Madden '08. He plays it all the time and loves it. I've personally never played it.
For non-sports games, you can't go wrong with Mario Kart and Guitar Hero.
Zelda is pretty fun, but the first hour or so is pretty slow; after that it picks up.
