View Full Version : Suggestion for improvement…

Even though they are interesting, some of the latest big threads have taken ages to read, to the point that I found myself at times just skimming threads to get to the important information. In addition, several bloggers who entered the large threads late, understandably, keep asking for a summary of the important happenings.

Suggestion: For a thread with over ten ?? message pages, is it possible to tag a message page (by using a different color number) if there is a message from an Insider, or a message relating to a source on the page?

Even though threads are filled with many interesting comments, they also, unfortunately, have many unrelated discussions; and, because of the length of the threads, may even have late night “under the influence” bloggers involved. Tagging the message page number would allow serious bloggers who enter late, or who don’t have much time and just want an up-date, to go directly to an identified message page to get essential information.

I also think my idea would shorten the on-line blogging reading time for some bloggers, so that when something big happens, it would help prevent spikes from a mass of OH bloggers being on-line at the same time, straining the servers.

I'm sure suggestions may have been made to move the Insider based messages to a separate thread, but I don’t like that idea, as it takes them out of the context of discussions, and would make the thread discussions uninteresting.

Just a thought from a new member…

Keep up the good work!

Appreciate you taking the time to provide us some feedback. I understand some of these large threads can be time-consuming to get through and your idea is a good one in theory. The first problem I see is who decides what's "important" information? Also, while everybody enjoys a little insider information and we do our best to prevent unfounded rumors from getting posted and built upon in discussion, I wouldn't be willing to tag a post as such; it would be too much like an endorsement of the inside information and that's certainly not something we're interested in doing.

In the meantime I suggest using the search features to look for buzz words. Otherwise get yourself a cup of coffee, sit down, and be ready to do some clickin' and scrollin'! :D

I know that info changes very quickly and it's a pain to read an entire thread, but the "can anyone give me an update" posts do get a little tiring. I mean, I took the time to read it. Another message board I go to has a rule that you shouldn't post until you've read the last fifteen pages or 15 days of content (whichever is less) so that you won't have to ask for updates. I don't know how that would go over here but maybe some variation would help pare down these unwieldy threads.

Scottie, thanks for responding so quickly. As I said, I'm new, and just enjoying the OH. I didn't mean to tag messages of what someone thought was important information, just information like a newly found media release on the thread topic, if we can't do the Insiders' messages.

However, I think I'll just take your suggestion on getting a cup of coffee, even though most of the people drink tea over here in England.

Stacey, I see your point. It's almost like the "Can anyone give me an update?" message is an interruption that disturbs the flow of the thread, because someone may not take or have the time to fill themselves in. But some of the threads are very long, with many pages; with the request for an update adding to the length of the thread... which brings me back to my previous suggestion.

But as I said, I'm new, not complaining and enjoying myself while drinking coffee... just giving feedback from a new person on board.
