God, I love this movie.
Does anybody else make a habit of watching A Christmas Story at least once during the 24-hour marathon? I usually try to watch it from 8:00pm-10:00pm on Christmas Eve. :)

Saying they don't like "A Christmas Story" is one of those things that really lowers my opinion of someone :laughlol:

No one ever believes me when I say I've never seen it. I've seen clips of it, but I feel like I see the same clips every year. The kid changing the tire and saying "fudge", and him getting a decoder pen.

Well I have it on DVD, so I watched it before Christmas Eve/Christmas. But then I couldn't sleep and woke up early and watched it again.
I love A Christmas Story.

I watched it in school last week, and the best part was when the kid licked the pole.

Wells, a liquor store in Towson, has fairly elaborate shrine to the movie set up near the cashwrap, including the lamp in question.
And the best part of the movie is the whole movie. RIP, Sheppard.

Same here only this year I only caught the tail end of it, but I know it virtually from the beginning to end by heart.

Well then, think less of me. I can still appreciate people who like it. I'm just not one of them.
If I catch it and have to watch any part of it I hope its the one time when he shoots himself in the eye and saves me from the misery of feeling I've been shot in the eye with a rusted piece of festering buckshot.
Bit of trivia. This movie was released early in the holiday season and pulled from theaters just as word of mouth was hitting in order for another holiday movie to take its place. That movie then flopped big time. What was that movie?

My guess: Santa Claus — The Movie.
I'm sorta indifferent to A Christmas Story itself, but I've definitely grown annoyed at having it rammed down my throat every year between Thanksgiving and New Years.

My guess: Santa Claus — The Movie.
The one with Dudley Moore, and John Lithgow in it right? That's what I thought at first but it came out two years after the Christmas Story. At least I'm pretty sure it did.

It was The Toy.
Didn't The Toy come out in 1982? Both had Scott Schwartz in them.

I was questioning myself too when I looked up The Toy, but that's the one that sticks in my head. I know it was pulled for something Christmasy and it wasn't Santa Claus

True story. My wife and I are teachers in northern NY (120 miles north of Syracuse on St. Lawrence River). Friday before Christmas, Dec. 19. Nasty weather, freezing, wind, ice, snow. My wife has bus duty (end of day) at an elementary school and the 6th grade had just watched the movie (edited). My wife is huddled near the entrance with the other bus duty person when a couple of kids come to tell her that a boy just got his tongue stuck to a STOP sign. It takes a couple of attempts before she realizes that the kids are serious. The bus duty teachers run over to the kid. My wife is left with him while the other lady goes to get help (warm water). The kid's tongue is bleeding all over and turns white (kid says it doesn't hurt) creating a bizzare scene as my wife tries to cup her hands around the kids tongue to block the wind. Finally help comes and the kid is set free. He goes inside to the health office (he is OK) and my wife asks him "did they triple dog dare ya?". The kid just looks at her.
