Zach Braff looks stupid with a beard but hopefully this show is still hilarious.

I've heard the first couple episodes have a more serious tone, because Bill Lawrence was worried that the show was getting too over-the-top silly.

I think this show is on its last legs (this will probably be the final season), but we'll see.

I'm a little skeptical. Love the show, but it's had a (somewhat) long hiatus, new network, etc. Hopefully it doesn't just fade out with a sputter.

Yeah, last season was not very good. I think part of that was NBC screwing around with the show (as usual) and the writers getting tired of it and lashing out. The "finale" episode for example was pretty absurd and definitely not a finale at all.

This is definitely the last season for Braff and Lawrence. I read it is possible for ABC to renew it next year but Lawrence would insist on a new name. I think it's more likely they won't do that, but we'll see.

Season seven

On February 13, 2008, NBC announced that Scrubs would resume with new episodes, along with other comedy series on April 10, 2008 at 9:30/8:30c on NBC.[24] The season finale aired on May 8, 2008,[25] although that particular episode was originally intended to air as episode 9 of the season.

That would be Neil Flynn. He originally auditioned for the role of Dr. COx but lost to John McGinley. They liked him so much that they gave him the role of the janitor.

Wait. The name of him in the show, or the actor's name?

Pretty decent episodes, I thought the 2nd one was much better then the first.

I thought the second one was crap. Zach Braff seems like the kind of guy who thinks he's really deep and is totally full of himself. What was that crap about "In the end I guess all you can hope for is one good last thought." How profound. The old guy had it right when he said, that's what you're telling me. I do usually like the show, but the 2nd episode sucked. This first one was good.

BTW, Courtney Cox is so hot.

Not enough Cox.

Of either variety, in this case.

Plus, it really also isn't Scrubs without Kelso, so they need to find ways to get him involved more than just skeezing at Coffebucks.

So I guess Cox was only on the show for a few times.

Wonder who the new Chief of Medicine will be....

Last night's shows were decent, I liked the first episode better.

I agree, they need to find ways to have Dr. Kelso on the show more than snagging muffins at Starbucks.

I've heard they want to continue the show after this season, but if half the cast is gone, there is no point in watching and what little audience they have left will stop watching too.

Yeah I've heard which sucks because I really enjoy the show...but it has already started to wear thin with storylines, so I can't possibly see it continuing after this year, except if they want to add new cast members. But then why would we be watching?

Also, is it just me or does anyone agree that John C. McGinley is completely underrated on that show?

It's been rumored that they will reveal the Janitor's name at some point this season. We'll see if that is true or not.

A popular guess is that the Janitor's name will end up being "Neil Flynn". The speculation comes from the fact that at some point in the show's run they mentioned, and showed the clip of, Neil Flynn's/the Janitor's brief appearence in the movie "The Fugitive". Flynn plays the Chicago cop who gets shot by the one armed man on the train toward the end of the movie. Anyhoo, that is one theory.

As a one time big fan of the show who felt as though the last couple of season sucked but still watched anyway, I was very pleased by the first two episodes. Not too over the top goofy and the second episode with Glynn Turman was, IMHO, the type of episode that made Scrubs pretty special, I thought, in the first place.

That Mayor Royce is one hell of an actor.

I read that once too, thus explaining how he was in "The Fugitive", which was such a clever story.

Agreed that the past few years were pretty weak, but these few episodes have been great.

Mayor Royce was terrific last week, that is what makes the show great, the mix of funny and emotional. It really does work.

I'm thinking two things while watching tonights episode:

1) I think this was supposed to be the first show in this season, based on all the intro exposition of the newest batch of interns and the jokes about JD's "new" beard, and

2) The writers have seemingly completely forgotten that Eliott became a private practice doctor that practices at Sacred Heart, she's acting like an attending again.

That HAD to be the first episode, they even mentioned the new chief of staff, who hadn't been named yet. I do think Oscar the Grouch would have been a nice choice.

The second one seems to be following along with the show two weeks ago. Elliott and JD together, Cox about to named chief...etc.

The show is still as snappy as ever...Dr. Cox becoming Chief of Medicine should be interesting...

Was there an episode where Dr. Cox was named Chief O'Medicine (that's my homage to the Janitor) that I missed? I can't recall if I watched last week.

It was last week, so if you can't recall that probably means you missed it.

The first episode this week brought out an interesting development. I always sort of figured Cox would eventually become the Chief of Medicine and figure out that Kelso wasn't inherently a d-bag, the job just sort of makes you in to one, but I never thought that J.D. would then become the new Cox, the one who holds the Chief of Medicine accountable. And I even if I thought about it, I never thought Kelso would be the one to "coach" him in to that role.

But then, the dynamics were back to the status quo in the second episode. I hope it returns to the character growth the first episode explored.

But I also like that Cox is trying to learn how to do things his way, but how bittersweet was it that Kelso specifically told him that the one thing he shouldn't sacrifice is his son, like he did with Harrison, and the end of the show was Cox not getting home in time to read Jack his bedtime story?

It's been okay. Still some funny moments, but past its prime.

That said, there's talk that ABC might want to renew it for another season, even though practically none of the cast members would be returning full-time. I think that's a mistake. Just let the show end after this season instead of trying to force another year out of it with new characters.

Looks like the article I read jumped the gun on McGinley, Flynn, and Chalke. Only Braff has signed a deal. Flynn will probably not be back as he is co-starring in a new show with Patricia Heaton.

Here's the TV Guide story:
http://www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/406387_tvgif19.html

But Scrubs' Season 9 might look different in ways besides its cast. McPherson said that Lawrence is considering two scenarios for what he calls the series "next generation," one of which is "a complete rethink" that would move the setting away from Sacred Heart Hospital.
