The new MLB Network TV has a show called Prime 9 in which they chronicle list of the 9 greatest in various categories..shortstops, games, managers, etc. I wondered...what would you consider the the nine greatest homers in Orioles history? I'll start the list...maybe not the most important but it does belong on the list...

June 22, 1979, Doug DeCinces hits a 2 run, walk off homer to beat the Tigers and ignite "Orioles Magic".

Tito Landrum hits a 10th-inning home run off Britt Burns in Game Four of the 1983 LCS breaking up a scoreless tie and clinching the series for the Orioles.

Here's Dan Connelly's blog entry from the Sun which discusses what homer was the greatest in Orioles history.

Frank Robinson hit the only homer to leave Memorial Stadium, I believe. That one should be on the list.

Any homer hit by Mark Belanger. :D I actually saw him hit one once, it probably flew 309 feet, 3 inches.

Lenn Sakata's walk-off homer vs. the Blue Jays, 8.24.83.

Boog Powell's inside-the-park homer vs. the Pilots, 8.16.69.

Chris Hoiles' ultimate grand slam vs. the Mariners, 5.17.96.

O's 1st-ever WS inning... in LA against the feared and favored Dodgers...
Frank and Brooks hit back-to-back dingers off Drysdale, which punctured the Dodgers' mystique and set the tone for the 4-game sweep.

Frank's took the LF'er back to the wall.
For Brooks', the LF'er just stood there and watched it sail way over his head.
The best of times...

ps: I don't have the list of guys who homered in their first-ever WS AB, but Brooks is one of them.

The first one that came to my mind:

October 3, 1979 - Game 1 of the ALCS at Memorial Stadium

Two on and two out in the bottom of the 10th inning versus the California Angels (after Jim Palmer & Nolan Ryan departed with the score 3-3).

Mark Belanger due up versus Angels reliever John Montague, but Earl Weaver calls on John Lowenstein to pinch-hit.

BOOM! Three-run homer, O's win 6-3 and take two of the next three to win the AL pennant.

Good one...I was at that game, way up in the upper deck down the left field line. Couldn't see the corner in left from that angle at Memorial. The whole area waited for everyone else to cheer and for the ump to wave his arm in a circle over his head. Ah, thank you Brother Lo...

The very next night we had a twi-nite DH and in game 1 Eddie hit a 3 run walk off homer. Game 2 Terry Crowley hits the GW single in the bottom of the eighth.

"Orioles Magic" myth was born sometime during these 3 games.
