Pavel Datsyuk and Nick Lidstrom will be forced to miss the first game after the All Star break for not attending the All Star game this weekend.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman imposed the policy, established at last year's general managers meetings, to legitimize injury claims and improve All-Star Weekend attendance. The policy states All-Stars who are injured must have missed at least the last game before the All-Star break in order to be excused; otherwise, they must sit out the first regular-season game after the break.
I think that is a great rule. It's also refreshing to see the league enforce the rule against 2 star of the best team in the league, with Lidstrom being a future HoFer. I wouldn't be opposed if they implemented this for MLB. It would be nice to see the players elected by the fans actually show up and play.
