Got into a debate last night with a buddy of mine who is a big-time Wizards fan. Basically we debated Carter v. Jamison for a while. Curious what some of the NBA fans on this board think.

For the record I voted for Vince Carter and frankly I don't think it's even close. He was better for longer, kills him in PER.

The only knock is that he tended to be a ball-hog and wasn't always the best teammate. If you want to go for those intangibles that's fine but statistically, I go with VC.

VC had a better TS% (.537 - .524), and assist % that was nearly three times better (23 - 8.6) and a TO% (9.8 - 8.5) that was basically the same as Jamison.

He shoots better, is way, way better at creating shots for his teammates and turns the ball over about the same.

Why is he a ball hog compared to Jamison?

I guess it's a stigma thing...

Unfortunately it's Carter. He's the Manny Ramirez of basketball, seemingly able to just turn it on whenever he feels like it, but often plays at about 60% when he can. I feel like Carter had/has the ability to be a top 5 or so player in the league, but he just doesn't always seem interested. I love AJ and I feel like if we're going into being a better teammate or player that would even be more beneficial to most teams, he might be the choice. Carter has had a nice career, so I had to give it to him.

I don't know, this is a toughie. I think the average fan just throws out Vince Carter (not calling anyone here an average fan) and the stats seem to point that way too.

My thing is niether has ever done anything that spectacular. Carter has the individual awards and has been the more recognizable player, but both have been absent from the playoffs and really have been the brighter spots on bad teams.

I would say Carter, and I agree that its not really close.

I still say that was a good trade for both teams when it happened, when was that 98?

Jamison was the better player at UNC, Carter has had the better pro career IMO.

Like to hear beaners take on this.

Jamison is much more of a leader than VC will ever be.

Carter's game is more suited for the NBA than Jamison. Jamison has done well to be as significant as he is for as long as he has. Carter morphed into a superstar early on, but never won and thus will get accused of underacheiving. They've both have had fine careers. Carter is the better NBA player though.

It's like asking who do I like better, my daughter or my son.

I chose Carter although Jamison has a better attitude and is obviously a better team player. Someone above said it best, that Vince is better suited for the NBA game. Although I'm sure most players would rather have Jamison and his work ethic as a teammate than VC.

Carter won the Rookie of the Year. 7 All Star Appearances. 5 Post Season appearances

Jamison won the Sixth Man Award. 2 All Star Appearances. 5 Post Season appearances

If you're asking the question as to who has had the better career, it's pretty clear that Carter is your winner. Neither has gone very far in numerous playoff appearances, both have a distinguished award but Vincanity was viewed as better by more people.

Now if you're asking which player is the most desirable to have on your team... I think Jamison creams him. True Carter is more talented but Jamison defines consistency and is beloved by all teammates as a perfect role model.
