Decent attendance given how poorly it was publicized. Tom Davis hosted, and the guests were Larry Sheets, Mike Devereux, and Dave Johnson. They talked about the season and their careers, took questions from fans, and then did autographs. And they showed the 1989 Highlight Video on the big screen.

Brought back a lot of memories...the Why Not theme song, Tettleton and the Froot Loops, the great outfield defense, the big hits to win games, guys like Ballard and Milacki pitching complete game after complete game, Olson's fantastic season, Billy Ripken's great defense at 2nd, Devo's disputed game winning HR, Brad Komminsk going over the fence, Harnisch stepping on the nail....

Little appreciated was the great work done by Mark Williamson setting up for Olson.

You look at the guys that pitched for that team in terms of their careers and they weren't all that great. The defense made them better than they were. Can that happen again? Obviously the division is a lot tougher. But if you go player by player, I think there's more talent on this 2009 team than there was on the 1989 O's.

Why Not?

I went as well and was pretty disappointed in the actual event. But seeing the video brought back some great memories. Olson's 3 k's in Oakland will always be the highlight for me.

I never once heard about this event. Would have liked to have gone.

As Beaner said, it wasn't the greatest event in the world. And it was very poorly publicized. Nothing in the Sun, just a mentionon a MASN blog.

But FWIW, I did post it to the main board last week:

Your thread was the only way I knew about it. It was a night out with the guys, which is never a bad thing. And the video is always fun to watch.
