Saw on tv today that Dubai refused to allow a female Israeli tennis player to play in their tournament next week and not a single other player has dropped out of the tournament in protest.

This highly offends me that not a single player is willing to stand up to Dubai or their sponsers and make a statement on behalf of human rights, this is just the latest example of Dubai's bigotry and athletes in a variety of sports selling out to the almighty $$$ sign.

They will not host a tournament next year. Players don't want to sit out because their rankings will take a hit. Plus a lot of them live on making it past the 1st round and collecting that check.

Bomb Dubai!!!

The first year this happen they claimed that they didn't have the security necessary to keep her protected. This year the waited til the last minute to say NO when she could have played in another tournament which still stinks because this event has a lot of points for rankings.

I don't think Dubai will be hosting a tournament with ranking points next season.

I'm pretty sure Venus Williams and the rest of the top 10 ranked seeded players really need the prize money for making it past the first round.

Tennis isn't like baseball where if you make it to the bigs your taken care of. Only the top, top players are rich. You have to win to get paid, not just show up. There are female players in this tournament that don't have sponsors. They travel on their own dime and have to put up the tournament entry fee. Making it past the first round for a lot of the female players is very important financially.

Well thats great for the players who survive on getting past the first round, but has nothing to do with my point that none of the top 10 seeds backed out NONE OF WHOME are in what I would call dire financial straits

It's worth noting that Shahar Peer is a very, very good tennis player and I'm pretty sure she has sponsors that back her, in addition to a healthy history of earnings.

Not that I condone this at all - it's nothing short of a travesty - but I think the part regarding her finances should be clear.

Didn't Andy Roddick back out of the men's tournament over this?

Once again, if you payed attention to womens tennis, you would know that the top players don't care much about their rankings, Venus and Serena are probably the two best players but they aren't ranked #1 because they don't play at every tournament stop, mainly just focusing on the grand slams.

Winning a grand slam is far more important than being ranked #1.

lol

I watch womens tennis and if you actually did and not listen to what ESPN tells you, the players care more about the #1 ranking than grand slams.

Serena is ranked the #1 player in the world. Why don't you actually look up the information so you don't look like a complete idiot on the subject.
