I figure a blanket thread for all the post game stuff would work instead of one for each.
The game last night was OK for me. The 3 goals are misleading if you didn't watch the game, all 3 were scored basically by the D letting someone walk in alone, either by turnovers or cherry-picking by ATL. (Cherry picking if you didn't know is when someone sits at the blue line and waits for a pass from the other end to get behind the D.)
Neuvirth looked great actually, poised, played the puck well, but if you were a 20 year old kid and had Kovalchuk coming in one on none what do you think your odds are to stop him?
Schultz wasn't using his body and was playing some pretty bad D. Green was TOO interested in getting into the offense and kept turning over the puck. He did start laying out some hits later though, kinda funny to see the little guy hit people.

Do you ever feel when Brasher is on the ice, we are playing 5-4?
I do.

He's -5 and has been on the ice for only 8 Caps' goals and 14 opponent's goals (1PPG). Only Brooks Laich has a worse +/- (-6), but his line usually faces the top scoring line each night.
FYI, Ovie has been on the ice for 120 of the Caps goals and only 55 of opponent's goals, which is the 2nd largest difference in the NHL behind only Green (104/37).

Has anyone seen the slo-mo replay of Semin's shot yet? It was 3 inches off the ice for like half the rink, and then as it got inside the faceoff dots it just starts to rise. That's some serious heat. Still...if I'm Tim Thomas, I don't sleep last night without some Xanax.

Went to the game yesterday...man they sucked. They were so flat and I saw it coming. A big win against Boston and they couldn't get up for the next game. Hopefully we don't see that the rest of the season.

You see this problem a lot when you have young teams...don't play well in day games. Draw your conclusions from young guys, saturday nights and Sunday day games...but I've got a suspicion.

The penalties have got to stop! This problem seems to have gotten worse, but they need to put a stop to it before the playoffs start. A few penalties are to be expected, but you can't spend half a period on a PK and expect to win all the time.
I'm curious to see if McPhee can pull off any moves before the trade deadline. I'd like to see them get rid of Nylander and try and pick up a D-Man.

We need to shake it up!

I didn't get to see the game tonight. Even though I live in NC, the Canes didn't broadcast the game, so I couldn't see it. Is the goaltending that bad, or is it the defense? All I know is that last year after getting Huet, things changed. Theodore has been good in spurts this year, but can he be trusted in the playoffs?

Neuvirth played last night. JT was hit with the flu. Once again though, Semin missed open nets, OV was contained all night, and our PK/PP lines were flat out horrible.
It was not a pretty game, I hope they shake it up today.

That Semin miss was horrible!! He hold the whole goal to shoot at. They even said that Ovechkin had begun to celebrate thinking Semin had the easy goal. That would have given the Caps a 1-0 lead. Could've been a nice momentum builder.

Man we stunk last night. Even if Semin scored the 1st period open net, we still would have lost.
Ovie, Green, Backstrom...they all played poorly. There was no accountability on D and they had plenty of giveaways.
And still we're giving up dumb penalties. Too many men on the ice, dumb holding calls, penalties after giving up a SH goal! Just dumb mistakes all around.
Two bad losses in a row is uncommon under the Boudreau regime. You have to expect the team to turn it around, but we can't be having this happen anymore the rest of the year.
The trade deadline is today. We need to sign a veteran Dman who doesn't make as many mistakes as Schultz and Jurcina.

Or we at least need to trade off Nylander so that we can afford to bring Alzner back up.

Well no trades by us...we might as well just waive Nylander. I'm assuming he's addition by subtraction then we call up Alzner and wait to activate Pothier.
Philly, Boston, Devils, Pens, Rags...they all made deals. Nothing by GMGM
Rags - Antropov, Morris
Flyers - Carcillo
Pens - Guerin, Kunitz the other day
Bruins - Recchi, Montador
Devils - Havelid the other day

Yeah this is definitely a disappointment. Especially when all of your rivals did something to better their selves. I know we were limited in what we could do b/c of the cap, but still wanted to see something done. Getting Pothier back should help and I definitely agree they should wave Nylander so they can bring Alzner back up. Nylander has been healthy scratch many times lately so that's no loss there and we could improve the D.

Apparently McPhee inquired Anaheim about Pronger but Anaheim wanted Varlamov, Alzner, and a 1st, way too much for a 37 yr old D-man with a huge cap hit.

Maybe we should play Nylander. Since's he's been scratched, we're 2-2

Agreed. Alzner could BE Pronger in 2 years.

That was a great game yesterday. I had to turn it off before OT started, needed to get to bed. Couldn't wait to find out the score this morning. ;)
