It's on WHFS (105.7).

Cameron Maybin bounces out to Izturis to lead off the game. Huff scoops the throw at first.

Single for the Amazin' Amezaga.

PaulFolk

Guthrie gets a bit wild. He uncorks a wild pitch and then walks Ramirez.

Popout for Cantu.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:13 PM
Uggla with a long flyout leaves two runners stranded.

Not exactly a flawless first inning for Guthrie, but he keeps the Marlins off the board.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:16 PM
Roberts flies out to start the O's first.

Anybody else here?

Izturis strikes out on three pitches.

Why does Trembley have a thing about having light-hitting MIers 1st or 2nd in the batting order? He did this last year too.

Why does Trembley have a thing about having light-hitting MIers 1st or 2nd in the batting order? He did this last year too.
Because it's spring training and it doesn't matter.

Hermida misplays a Markakis fly ball into a double, and Aubrey Huff drives him in with an RBI single.

Hermida's shoddy glovework again rears its ugly head for the Marlins. He misplays a Mora fly ball into an RBI double, making it 2-0 Orioles.

Ricky Nolasco can't be too happy with Hermida right now.

I'm starting to see why the Marlins were willing to listen to trade offers for him this offseason.

They need to keep hitting the ball to Hermida.

PaulFolk

Scott Moore bounces out to first to end the frame. O's have taken a 2-0 lead after one inning.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:28 PM
Hermida lines out to right and Ross pops out to short to start the second.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:30 PM
Two-out single for Helms, but Brett Hayes flies out. That inning went more smoothly for Guthrie than the first.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:36 PM
Hermida successfully catches a Felix Pie fly ball, as the fans cheer sarcastically.

PaulFolk
02-28-2009, 02:39 PM
Christian whiffs, and Moeller lines out to Hermida. Still 2-0 O's after two innings.

Maybin with a bouncer to the hole at SS. Izturis gloves it and had no chance to get him, but Maybin inexplicably rounded first base. Cesar threw behind Maybin and got him in a rundown for the first out.

Forearm stiffness doesn't sound like a big deal.

Well I'm nowhere near the athlete or player AJ is, but when I played baseball, I dealt with forearm stiffness that eventually effected my elbow and shoulder at times.

It was hard to throw a baseball 95% of the time. Now again, he's in much better shape that I ever will be. Maybe I'm just overreacting a tad, but it's makes you feel a little bit worried.

PaulFolk

Amezaga grounds out, and then Felix Pie makes a nice catch in foul territory to retire Ramirez. 3-up, 3-down for Guthrie in his final inning of work.

Three scoreless frames for Jeremy. Now he's off to the WBC.

Perhaps still rattled by that, Amezaga botches an Izturis liner that goes for a single.

PaulFolk

Markakis with another double to left field (I don't think you can blame Hermida for this one). Izturis moves to third. Two in scoring position with one down for Huff.

The allusion is to the kind of unruly behaviour that results in much blood being spilt. There are several suggestions as to the origin of the phrase. The one most often repeated, especially within the walls of the Melton Mowbray Tourist Office, is a tale dating from 1837. It is said that year is when the Marquis of Waterford and a group of friends ran riot in the Leicestershire town of Melton Mowbray, painting the town's toll-bar and several buildings red.

This is off the internet for the meaning of "paint the town red". I made the other bs.

Ooh, Reimold makes an impressive running basket catch on a Carroll fly ball. Who says his only position is bat?

Who says? Manfred. Responding to that play Manfred said Reimold is showing this spring that he is better then advertised. I'd like to know what advertisements he has been reading.

Robby Hammock, pinch-hitting for Mora, strikes out against Taylor Tankersley to start the 8th.

Heh..."Manfred." I like it! A portmanteau of Fred and Manfra.

Somebody strikes out. Turner, maybe?

I raced downstairs to interview Jeremy Guthrie and missed part of Brian Matusz's appearance today, but he turned in 1 2/3 scoreless innings before reaching his pitch limit and being replaced by Scott Chiasson.

Roch confirming the pitch count for Matusz. No injury. No matchup.

What the...? You interviewed Guthrie?

Reimold strikes out looking. Tankersley strikes out the side.

Oh, I see...you were quoting Roch. Please provide a link when you do that.

Hoey is coming on. It doesn't look like they are stretching out Bass like a starter. The O's appear to be looking at him as a reliever which is bad for him considering how many right handed relievers are on this team.

Logan Morrison, the Marlins' first baseman of the future, leads off with a sizzling liner that Donnie Murphy catches at second base.

Jim Hoey is pitching for the Birds.

Someone named Davis has doubled for the Marlins with one out.

Hennessey, Simon, Bass and Baez not exactly stepping up.

Scott Cousins bounces out to first as Brad Davis advances to third. Chris Coghlan is now batting (thank you, list of Marlins non-roster invitees (http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/team/roster_nri.jsp?c_id=fla)!).

Coghlan is going to be a stud for them, Uggla's replacment at 2B...

Wild pitch to the backstop by Hoey plates Davis from third. It's a 4-2 game.

Hoey walks Coghlan to bring the possible tying run to the plate with two outs. C'mon Hoey, you don't want a blown save on your spring training stat line! There's no recovering from that!

And when he does get it over, it supposedly is a very straight fastball (Julio's was perfectly straight, and extremely hittable).

PaulFolk

That's weird-- Coghlan tries to steal second, and gets thrown out by Quiroz to end the game.

So the O's finish off a 4-2 win over the Marlins, improving to 2-2 in Grapefruit League play.

Hoey barely escapes. Bounces a 1 and 2 curveball to go 2 and 2, throws ball three but the runner breaks and Quiroz guns him.

I'd say Hoey didn't help his chances to try to make the Orioles pen with that outing. Good win for the Birds. Huff Daddy is on fire and Guthrie had a great tune up before the WBC...

Stay healthy Guts!
