Don't know how, but there was a double play in there somewhere. Christian makes an out, and there's three outs. On to the bottom of the second as the Pauley exhibition continues.

Thanks, Billy, but I'm off to Linvilla Orchards with my oldest twin daughter, before the snow gets here.

These weren't scrubs either it was Nick Johnson, Ryan Zimmerman, and Josh Willingham that he struck out. Three MLB starters, so thats encouraging. He looked like a totally different pitcher out there today. Its great to see our young pitching registering K's and ground balls rather than walks. Very nice change of pace from what we're used to.

Roch reports the O's got on the board in the 2nd inning.
Justin Turner went yard off Tyler Clippard for a 2-0 lead. Felix Pie walked and Luke Scott drives him in with a double. 3-0 O's.

Isn't that Pie's 2nd or 3rd walk so far? Good to see him being selective.

Nick Johnson homers, Nats on the board 3-1.
Pauley is finished for the day, pitching three innings. Allowing one run, he walked none and struck out three.

Tillman's line looks mediocre, despite not giving up a run. He had 2 BB and a WP. He's going to need to have better control.
But it's one early ST game, so take it FWIW.

2.0 IP, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 2 BB is mediocre? This is the O's we're talking about here...
Hernandez pitched the sixth inning. Looks like he got in a little jam, but pitched his way out. http://masnsports.com/2009/03/pauley-on-pauley.html
Patton with a rough outing. O's up 6-3.http://masnsports.com/2009/03/orioles-sign-eaton.html

When is Pie up to bat again?
I think he's hit 2 singles and taken two walks. Not too bad. Hopefully we'll see some extra base hits soon.

Didn't realize that Reimold had replaced him.
Snyder looking pretty good. So far in spring training he's reached base on every at bat. 2 singles, 1 double, 1 walk.

McCrory k'd 3 of 4 he faced. I'm sure he was lighting up the gun.

I would have to believe that if Snyder has a decent year this year in the minors that he will ready to take over the hot corner next year. Pressure seems to slide right off this guy.

I was at the game, and Wieters hit a fly ball to shallow right and Dukes threw out Moore at the plate.

Patton was struggling finding the strike zone, McCrory came in and K'd the first batter he faced on three pitches. The last inning was your typical Oriole nail bitter, instead the O's pulled it out.
As for the game, the temp at the first pitch was in the mid 50s and the wind was a steady 20-25mph all game. Every time the sun poked through the clouds the fans would start cheering. The wind helped Nick Johnson and Wieters get their homers today. Nick Johnson even stopped at second b/c thats as hard as he felt he hit it.
Freel's error was a high chop and he let the ball play him instead of attacking the ball. There was a play late in the game where Jolbert Cabrera was going out to left on a short fly to left, and Reimold took his time coming in on the ball and it fell between them. If Reimold was hustling on that play, he would have made the catch.
An interesting moment from the day was when Adam Dunn broke his bat and the sharp end of the barrel stuck in the ground in front of the mound like a stake.

It looked to me that he had no velocity today. The Nats hitters were all over his fastball - lining outs and drilling singles. Just before DT pulled him, a screamer went between his legs for a hit.

Thats true. I was sitting in the left field bleachers, so I couldn't tell velocity that well from 250ft away. But I was yelling "that's what happens when you are forced to throw a strike" after he allowed one of his many screamers into center. Even the outs were hit really hard.
