My fantasy baseball league's draft was this morning. I would love to get some feedback from people to see how they think I did. Here is the roster:

C Matt Wieters
1B Justin Morneau
2B Brian Roberts
SS J.J. Hardy
3B Pablo Sandoval
OF Corey Hart
OF B.J. Upton
OF Nick Markakis
DH Joey Votto

1B James Loney
2B Aaron Hill
SS Yunel Escobar
IF/OF Ty Wigginton
OF CoCo Crisp

LHP Cliff Lee
RHP Ricky Nolasco
LHP Joe Saunders
RHP Matt Garza
LHP Oliver Perez

LHP Brian Fuentes
LHP Mike Gonzalez
RHP Brad Ziegler

I think my pitching is a little weak, especially the starters. That's one area I'd like to improve on. Wieters won't be ready for a few weeks, but Sandoval is eligible at catcher. So, he can play there at the beginning of the season. I like Ty, but Kevin Kouzmanoff wasn't drafted, and he might get more playing time and thus, be a more useful back-up third basemen. I ask you all to please chime in as well.

Do you mind putting up the order that you drafted them in?

Sure. I was allowed to keep two players from last year's team (that were drafted after round 6). I chose Cliff Lee and Nick Markakis. After that, my draft went in this order:

1. B.J. Upton
2. Brian Roberts
3. Justin Morneau
4. Joey Votto
5. Corey Hart
6. Matt Wieters
7. J.J. Hardy
8. Brian Fuentes
9. Ricky Nolasco
10. Pablo Sandoval
11. Matt Garza
12. Mike González
13. Yunel Escobar
14. James Loney
15. Joe Saunders
16. Oliver Pérez
17. Brad Ziegler
18. Coco Crisp
19. Ty Wigginton
20. Aaron Hill

You'll notice I waited quite awhile before taking my first pitcher. I don't know if that was a smart move or not, but a lot of my top pitchers ended up disappointing me last year (Erik Bedard, Scott Kazmir, Felix Hernandez). So, I decided to change my strategy this time around.

One of my main questions is my bench. I have the option of dumping Aaron Hill as my back-up second basemen and replacing him with Mike Fontenot or Freddy Sanchez.

Also, I like Wigginton, but he's not expected to play everyday. Kevin Kouzmanoff is available, and he'd probably be a better bet.

I agree about your starters. Nolasco is very good, and I have no idea what Lee will do this year (though it won't replicate last year) but Saunders and Garza both way overperformed last year and Oliver shouldn't be on a team. How many teams are in this league? With only 20 rounds, I feel pretty certain there's a better pick than Oliver on waivers.

If this is an OBP/OPS league, Fontenot is a solid choice, though I think playing time might be an issue for him.

12 teams in the league.

Available starters include John Smoltz, Anthony Reyes, Hiroki Kuroda, Mark Buehrle and Jeremy Guthrie.

And I did decide to drop Wigginton for Kouzmanoff. Sandoval will eventually be my everyday third baseman, but I need him to fill in at catcher until Wieters is ready.

Depending on how many DL spots you have (ie more than one), Smoltz is definitely worth picking up and stashing.

Kuroda and Buehrle are both much better than Perez. Kuroda moreso; he's a great fantasy pitcher that gets ignored because he's boring.

Thanks for the input. What do you think about me taking my chances on David Price? I was thinking about offering Morneau to a guy for Matt Kemp, Mike Aviles and Price. I don't know if Morneau would be enough, but I'm willing to part with him and move Votto to the position of my everyday first baseman. I guess I could toss Coco Crisp into the deal if the guy won't do 1 for 3.

That would be a great deal for you, but I doubt he'd do it. I see Kemp as being nearly as valuable as Morneau.

Yeah, I guess it's worth a try. If I can pull it off and obtain Kemp, I would then try to trade Upton to a guy who has Aubrey Huff and Chad Billingsley. That one might be a little more realistic, but you never know.
