Tim Dierkes at mlbtraderumors is in the midst of recapping some of Scott Boras' more notable clients/negotiations. His latest installment (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/04/boras-blast-from-the-past-ben-mcdonald.html) focuses on Ben McDonald, which offers some historical perspective on the O's relationship with Boras and the players he represents.

The team officially severed ties with McDonald yesterday, choosing not to tender him a contract rather than extending the required minimum offer of $3.6 million. Orioles general manager Pat Gillick called McDonald's representative with the news, and agent Scott Boras responded with about 30 seconds of silence.
Boras wound up costing Ben $18M by turning down a proffered 3-year extension with the Brewers after the 1997 season. McDonald never pitched again due to injury.
