Film Director John Hughes Dead at 59

He made some cult classic's... he also did the Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink.


The 59-year-old director was taking a morning walk in New York when he went into cardiac arrest, according to Michelle Bega. He was in Manhattan visiting his family.

Hughes was famous for his countless hit movies in the 1980s including "Sixteen Candles," "Home Alone" and Ferris Bueller's Day Off." His films made such young stars as Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy household names in the 80s, with fans dubbing the group "The Brat Pack."

When it's you time to go....cardiac arrest is the way to do it. At least he didn't suffer. Still scarry to think about it, though.

Pretty interesting look at Hughes from that article. I was looking at the Brat Pack chart on Wikipedia the other day and noticed that Hall and Ringwald stopped working with Hughes after Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink respectively even though Hughes went on to make a ton more movies. I guess I know why now.

Anyway, it sounds like Hughes had the Peter Pan syndrome that Michael Jackson had. At least Hughes didn't self-destruct because of it.
