I won't get to watch the game until noon Friday when NFL Network replays it, but based on what I read from practices it sounded like Justin Harper had moved ahead of Smith a little bit...in which case Marcus would have been the 5th WR on the depth chart. If the Ravens didn't pull the trigger on acquiring a big name WR after Mason's brief retirement, I doubt they do much to replace Smith either.

Nonetheless, it's a damn shame this happened. Marcus Smith was a guy I was hoping to see take a big step this season.

He got hurt making a fantastic special teams play, set up nicely by Koch pinning the returner in a corner.

I would have put Smith firmly in the 7th receiver spot - not that there is such a spot. I would have put him behind Mason, Clayton, Williams, Washington, Harper, and yes, even Figurs. He's a potential possession guy on a team with 2 possession guys in the top spots. He missed a catch last night for what would have been a big gain last night on an AMAZING Flacco throw - it was right to him. He strikes me as a guy who just doesn't get open, and he hasn't made the most of the passes that have actually gotten to him.

His loss comes from a depth perspective...Please, add another WR Ozzie!

Yeah I really was hoping for Marcus Smith to get a chance to show his skills this year.

Let's hope Mason doesn't get seriously injured or Cam Cameron is going to go nuts!

The team was hoping he would develop...now he won't. This sucks. Time to add another body, and someone with some experience hopefully.

Cetainly hurts on ST. Was probably 6th on the WR depth chart though. Actually there was probably a roster spot choice coming down between Figurs and Smith so it seems Figurs may have found his way on the team again this year, just not as the starting punt and kick returner. (Thank God)

Marcus is an awesome guy. Good buddies with Adam Jones... sucks he won't be on the sidelines this year.

This is what you get for trying to be cheap and slide by at one of your key positions.

I think you need to explain how losing a fifth wide receiver proves "cheap and slide by".

We have no depth at the position so it actually matters that a #5 receiver gets hurt.

I don't understand why people aren't really making a bigger deal about Clayton's hamstring. This is something that could really end his season if he isn't extremely careful. Yea maybe he could somehow go out and play, but a bum hammy takes away a ton of explosiveness and that's about all Clayton has going for him other than his hands.

Mason, a very fragile Demetrius, a bum hammy Clayton, Kelly Washington and alligator arms Justin Harper is not an NFL caliber unit. I don't care if Joe Montana is throwing the pigskin. Ozzie needs to do something here before the end of camp.
