Simple Question. What players on the team are "mistakes"?

Frank Walker should have been gone last year. I am wondering if Mattison makes it through to the end of the season too. He has shown me nothing.

Mattison is under the microscope for sure. Walker should have been gone as well. What hurts is losing Rolle.
Maybe the better question is what are they going to do to get better.

This. I cannot remember Walker havng a good game. Not only does he not play good defense, but he gets called for interference calls galore.

At this point only Carr.
Walker is overexposed as a nickel back, but isn't terrible as a 4th or 5th DB.
Mattison is on thin ice with me too, but I'm not sure that replacing the D-Coordinator is a move that has much chance of helping midseason.

When Sidney Rice gets 176 receiving yards on 6 receptions, you know there's a problem.

The person that needs to go is the "ego" of this defense. The question is can Ray Lewis sit back while flacco gets it done.
The defense can be average, and this team will make the playoffs

Remeber in 2007 when Cmac and Rolle were out and we played horrible, giving up long drives and big plays?
Then they both came back for the NE game and our D played great. Then they didn't play in the next week's Colts game and we got slaughtered?
This reminds me of that.
Except that we have both our starting corners healthy and playing.

Walker is fine if you are not asking him to cover the other guys #1 reciever, or speed reciever. He is simply being misutilized by a defensive coordinator who is misutilizing pretty much everyone on the D.

Webb needs to be above Carr on the depth chart.
People are getting on Walker but he is our 4th or 5th CB..I mean, he isn't that good but he isn't relied on all that much either.
What about our secondary coach? The technique seems to be poor a lot of the time.

It will be interesting to see how stubborn Harbaugh is about "his guys". It took forever for Billick or Ozzie to fire Cavanaugh, how long will Mattison hang around?

Of course. Seems unlikely though. And in the NFL you don't have that long to turn things around. If this defense hasn't improved after game 8, i'm ready to pull the plug. The problem, like you've already said, is that it seems unlikely that a mid-season d-coordinator change can benefit this year's team.

As for the secondary, it's not about who's gotta go, it's about who's gotta come. Getting rid of secondary personnel does nothing unless there's superior talent to bring in.
Perhaps when Webb's ready to contribute more in the secondary, we'll be able to use someone like Frank Walker less.

Tick tock. We're waiting, Lardarius. You're a third round pick. It's time to contribute.

Harbaugh needs to take Mattison to task this week, or fire him.
Basically it comes down to a "change you approach drastically or you're gone" type of speech.
Mattison's way of doing things obviously isn't working.
