Just to doublecheck myself and the advice I just gave.... My sister just called, her computer is dead. She hit the power and got 4 or 5 beeps and nothing. That most likely means the mother board is dead, right? It's a 4 or 5 year old P4 Dell, so I don't know what the specific beep pattern means... but most likely it's fried, right?
Grumble grumble grumble... I have to build a computer. :angryfire:

Could just be a ram problem and the computer won't post.

Pop it out and back in? Maybe a pencil eraser to the contacts?

I would try reseating it. If that doesn't work (and it has two sticks) try it with one and then the other.
Can you be more specific about the beeps. Are there any lights?
Example with the beeps
beep/beep beep / beep
Where the / indicates a pause.

I haven't seen it boot, and my sis wasn't incredibly specific. I'll see what it does this weekend, and go from there. Good tip on trying each RAM stick too. Didn't think of that. She has two I think. *fingers crossed*

God, I hate thinking about putting another CPU in a socket, then the fan. I've done it many many times, never had a problem... but it's such a worry! grrrrrrr

That worked. She popped the sticks, cleaned out the slots, popped em back in and voila! Computer running again.
Reps your way!
