What kind of back is this kid in the mold of? He now has 441 yards on 12.2 carries per game and 6 yards per carry average. Ohh yea he also has 33 receptions for 9.8 yards per reception this season. Is on pace for 1176 rushing yards and 88 receptions 866 yards threw the air. Only two other running backs have done 1000 rushing/receiving, 2000 total yards from scrimmage. Excuse me what only two other backs in the history of the league and that is LT and Marshal Faulk. Is Rice the next big thing it would only take 1-2 break out games to take his avg to 1k/1k season. This kid is the next big thing. We have a good/great young line, a good young qb who could reach great and a running back who is having a great season that is a recipe for it! Wow I didn't know he was doing this good keep it up RAYNELL MAURICE RICE!

A few of us saw this coming before the season started. All you had to do was watch what he was did last year before he got hurt and what he was doing in preseason to see he was very explosive and ready ro break out. The impressive thing to me is his abilty to get tough inside yards. I wasn't sure he could be a 25 carry guy but I've changed my mind. I'm not going to go as far to say he will ever put up the numbers LT did in his prime but I do believe he can be an all around workhorse back if the Ravens want to use him that way. Personally, I'd keep him in the Marshall Faulk, Brian Wetsbrook mode and give him 250 carries a year with the plan to get him 60+ catches as well.

The most impressive thing to me is how he almost always gets and extra 2-3 yards on each of his runs or receptions. He just doesn't fall straight down, he's always twisting and winding and falling for an extra couple yards.

I was a Bills fan before the Ravens moved to town and he reminds me of Thurman Thomas in his early years in Buffalo as a relatively small RB who's a serious threat as a runner and receiver.

I'm glad that they're not overusing Rice. It will extend his career. Although Thurman Thomas played in the NFL for 13 years, his effectiveness dropped off significantly after his 7th season when his body began to wear down. Although he made it into the Hall of Fame, I firmly believe that if Buffalo didn't wear him out in the early years than he would have been one of the Top 5 RBs of all-time.

Did it really drop that much after year 7? I've seen his name mentioned when list is compiled showing how RBs crater after their age 30 season. He reminds me a lot of MJD.

I like the MJD comp, and depending on just how much of an impact he is catching out of the backfield, I also like the Brian Westbrook comp.

Not only that, but he does a very good job of protecting the football while he's squirming for those last couple of yards. A lot of young running backs have a tendency to get excited as they're evading a tackle or dragging a defender along with them for that last couple yards and get sloppy with the football. Not Little Ray. He does a great job of keeping the ball tucked in while he's twisting and turning. That's how they grow 'em at Rutgers. :drungo:

Westbrook, LT, MJD... the comparisons are all accurate.

Ray Rice is special. I just hope he stays healthy. Guys that "small" usually get knicked up pretty easily.

525 rushing, 329 receiving 7 games. Still looking like he will eclipse 1000 yards rushing, needs to get so YAC to get his receiving up he can do it 1000-1000 lets go Ray!

Even though its what makes me love him and what he brings to the offense, it's that constant squiriming, twisting, and turning for the extra yards which is gonna get him hurt, probably.

A lot of people were down on the pick when the Ravens selected him in the second round last year. Personally, I never got why that was the case. Sure, I was hoping they'd draft an offensive lineman or a defensive back. Heck, I still hope they draft a defensive back. But if you follow college football you know how good Ray Rice was at Rutgers, and you know how he almost singlehandedly made that program relevant. There are other characters involved, but Ray Rice was one of the main reasons why that team went from a complete doormat to being a respectable program.

Speaking of people who helped make Rutgers respectable, I hate having to root against Brian Leonard twice a year now. I'd like to see the Baltimore media pick up on the relationship between him and Rice now that he's in the division (Cincy). On the other hand maybe they did the first time we played them this year and I missed it since I'm out here in the boonies watching games in bars with no sound. Anyway, when they're not playing the Ravens, I'd really like to see the Bengals get him some more touches. I really want to see him doing the "Leonard Leap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp2WqYIttKg)" over some Steelers!
