Per WNST, the Ravens tried out free agent kickers Mike Nugent and Billy Cundiff.

Does Vanderjack (sic?) still kick or is he retired? I know he was a pretty reliable kicker at one time until the Colts got down on him, and released him and I don't recall what happened to him after that.

I like the move. If they kick great, sign them, at worst case it should be a big wake up call to Hauschka. Hopefully he can use this as a motivational tool and get things together.

Neither of those names are super impressive. Nugent was highly regarded coming out of college but has been a pretty mediocre pro. Cundiff is nothing special. I think Hauschka probably has the better kicking ability, but maybe his head will prevent him from becoming a reliable late-game kicker.

Is it ironic or what that underneath this thread was an add for "Elite Kicking Academy?"

They tried out Nugent & Connor Barth last week, so one would imagine something's coming.

I don't care if they try out Ted Nugent and Billy Idol as long as they can find a guy who can make an easily makeable FG in the fourth quarter say 35-45 yards! In other words the range where Stover used to be Mr. Automatic!

Seems unlikely. Hauschka is and always has been a tool. He doesn't have a clutch bone in his body, I don't see that changing.

I was asking a serious question. I have no clue what you are talking about, unless you are just being a jackass towards Hauschka and then me.

But if you can't be bothered, I'll make sure to take that into account in the future when I decide what opinions are worth my time.

I don't care to be bothered with stupid two word questions, so yeah... note that down.

I don't know him, but I have a friend who played with him at NC State and evidently he always appeared to be nervous during pressure situations. A lot of people didn't care for him, but tis the life of a kicker I suppose.

My bad though, I definitely shouldn't have called him a tool, but rather explained what I just did above.

Hauschka's just like 95% of other kickers.

Lots of leg, very little head. Lots of people liked Gano better preseason, FWIW.

Very nice kid, though. Used to play lacrosse too.

Two things that you cannot have on your team in the NFL and be sucessful and that is a nervous kicker and QB in pressure situations. You are doomed to fail with either one.

I'm with you 100% although I think the clutch attitude is needed by everyone involved to some degree.

Steve Hauschka, meet Kyle Boller.

Joe Flacco, meet Matt Stover.

I was going to say that Gano kind of crapped the bed himself in the preseason and gift wrapped the job for Hauschka, but then looked at the stats. Is that right he only got 3 kicks? (other than PATs)

He was 1/3 if nfl.com's stats are correct. I guess I would still call that crapping the bed but it wasn't much of an opportunity.

But if you met Gano, it'd be pretty clear to you relatively quickly that he has the right kind of mindset to be a successful kicker.

The Ravens special teams has like 4 coaches (including Harbaugh.) They've got a kicking specialist to "help" Hauschka (guy was in Philly with Harbaugh... shocker, I know.) As if the kid doesn't have enough crap going through his head, he's also got 4 different people giving him advice.

Dude seriously....What's the point of this post?

He made a post that made very little sense without context, and when asked about it he responded in a completely uncalled-for fashion. And he still is.

I have no complaint with him that I know of, so there is no reason for him talking to me this way.

In the FWIW category, Graham Gano has been looking pretty good for the Las Vegas team in the UFL.

FG LONG XP
6/7 53 12/12

Ironically, perhaps, Gano's lone FG miss was a 41 yd attempt to tie the game in a 27-24 loss to the Florida team. It was in the same week as Hauschka's 43 yd miss against the Vikings.
