Just saw the winter classic today, as usual totally awesome.

Some Ideas I came up for some epic hockey games

* play the gold medal game of the olympics outdoors, they played a world championship outdoors in moscow like 50 years ago and what is the winter olympic stadium used for anyway?

* play the stanley cup finals outdoors, they can make Ice in warm weather I believe, and I think this could be pretty epic as well.

Thoughts?

If the Stanley Cup was in like Phoenix, that would be pretty weak.

The latest rumor I'm hearing is Pens Caps in Poopsburg

I think DC would be the absolute furthest south they could go. And even then it would be a risk. The average temperature on New Years around here is low 40s. This past New Years it was obviously butt cold but what happens if it's like 55 out? The ice would stay frozen, I'm sure but the atmosphere isn't as good when it's noticably nice out.

Here's an interesting suggestion for a venue

Should the league target some different, but interesting venues? Twitter follower Mike Gunn suggested Camden Yards, a terrific idea. Maybe Lambeau Field?

Here's an extensive top 30 list of great spots to have an outdoor game...and take a look at #25

25. Camden Yards (Baltimore, MD)

This still-lovely classic baseball stadium has been tossed around as an option for the Washington Capitals. Which is great and all, until you think about the torches and pitchforks headed to Ted Leonsis's house if the Caps did business with Peter Angelos before anyone in DC.

I desperately want to see a Pens/Flyers game played at Penn State.

I've heard talk of Michigan vs. Michigan State in The Big House, which would set a record for hockey game attendance.

Is anyone else feeling my idea for the gold medal game outdoors in the Olympic stadium? what do they use the winter olympic stadium for anyways besides the opening and closing ceremonies
