The 'ol Maize & Blue would benefit nicely recruiting-wise from this.
Interesting.

Fox Sports Seattle is calling it a "done deal."

What's worse? Dealing with college alumni boosters who want a championship every year, or trying to be in charge of multimillionaire pro football jocks?

This rarely, if ever works in the NBA, not quite sure about Football although I can think of Saban, Spurrier, Erickson, Switzer (though he did win a SB), Mike Riley...etc right off the bat. Carroll didn't have much success with the Pats and Jets, so we'll see how he does this time. Good luck.

Carroll is jumping ship right before USC gets handed probation.

And I always thought I liked Carroll...this is shaping up to make him look like a scum bag, isn't it?

I don't see why Carroll would make this move unless (1) he really values a Lombardi trophy over a Sears trophy, or (2) he knows USC is going to be a mess soon. Better to leave the mess for someone else.

Is he implicated in any way regarding the USC issues? That could definately be a factor although I do think it could also be simply that he's accomplished everything there is to accomplish in college and now he'll get the chance to see if he can conquer the NFL.

I can see why Carroll would take the job, he'll get a ton of money and perhaps he'll avoid any forthcoming penalties and problems at USC.
I can't see why the Seahawks would want him. He wasn't awful with the Jets and Pats, but he wasn't good either. With all the other big name coaches available, why not go after one of those guys? I'd much rather have Jon Gruden coaching my team than Pete Carroll.

There's always the possibility that maybe he learned some lessons the first time around that will make him a better coach at the NFL level now. Then again, that's what Dennis Erickson tried to tell everyone when he did his second NFL stint with the 49ers. I'm just not a big fan of successful college head coaches of big-time programs making the jump to the NFL. Off the top of my head, I can only think of two guys in my 30+ years of following football that have done it successfully; Jimmy Johnson and Bobby Ross. I don't count Barry Switzer even though he did win a SB at Dallas....a chimp could have coached that team and won it all.

I doubt he'll be directly tied to any of USC's violations, but it did happen under his watch.
First, I doubt anything serious will happen to USC. So I doubt that has much to do with it.
He's strongly considered leaving in the past, and I think that's largely due to his desire to prove himself in the pro's. The money doesn't hurt either.
As a USC fan, I'm sorry to see him go.
