More and more home electronic equipment need access to the internet to fully utilize the equipment. And I currently am looking at 7 items/rooms that I want wired (or future items), not wireless. One room will have 3 items and 4 other rooms, will have 1 item.

I plan to run cable to the 5 rooms in the house and my brother has the crimping tool and tester that would allow for me to crimp the fittings and to make sure that the cables test good.

I plan on running the cables to 1 central location to either where the cable modem is or run a cable to another location. That has not been determined yet.

I currently have a Belkin wireless router that can be replaced. It's about 3-4 years old. So, with all of this in mind, how should I go about this?

I work for a company that does this stuff beyond what electronics should be able to do :) If you want, give them a call and see if they could help suggest something, or maybe come give you a consultation or something. http://www.completeaudioandvideo.com/ 301-604-8111

I'll add this, if you're going to run cables, run extra. Especially if you're going to be opening any walls. It's a lot easier to run extra now and have enough, than to have to do the whole job again later.

Not sure about the hassle-factor of the situation you're looking at. Unless it's easy, if it was me I'd make sure Powerline boxes would not solve it without all that cabling. Between wireless and Powerline, I don't know what else you would need, unless you're doing something that is *very* bandwidth intensive...
