In another bone-crushing collision near home plate, Shorebird's catcher Justin Dalles was injured. Dalles was recently (3 days ago?) activated after receiving a concusion in April. Tonight (Wed.), the injury appears to be a leg/knee injury. The collision resulted after Savanah had loaded the bases in the 12th inning of a scoreless game and runner, Sam Honeck, was racing home on a ground ball to 2B. The throw was off target preventing the force and even a possible double play. The players collided when their legs hit. Honeck most likely suffered a tibia and/or fibula break (no X-ray machines in the stands), but the symptoms were clear. Dalles may have suffered an injury to or under his patella (Correction: Right Ankle ).

Dalles has a badly sprained right ankle and a nasty bruise on his shin were the contact was made (through the shingaurd).

Honeck did break both his fib/tib. He was operated on and will remain in the hospital for a couple of days. His season is over. His older brother, also a professional baseball player, had a similar accident about five days ago.

Wow, that's crazy. What is going on down there? I've never heard of so many injuries due to collisions at home plate. Too bad that Dalles can't seem to stay healthy.

As a follow-up, one of our Hangouters, Pastor Ed, visited Sam this morning and reports that they inserted a foot-long titanium rod in his leg and he is coming along nicely. Sam has one more semester at Tulane Univ. and his plans are for him to finish school this summer; rest, and be ready for Spring Training next Spring.

His brother broke his leg last week in an auto accident.

The family speaks well of the care Sam was given In Salisbury all the way around.
