Kjesrtad was Elias's #1 pick in 2020 draft and #2 overall, so Elias saw something great in him. Can you all imagine how powerful the O's will be if Holliday starts to hit and Kjerstadt hits like he did in the minors, Kjesrtad did good when he was called up in 2023. They will be the Baltimore Bombers! -
I'm not crushing Santander either, but he's a career .765 OPS guy. It was .797 last year. His only year over .800 was the Covid year. He plays average defense. Not a butcher, but not exactly rangy out there. Long story short, I think you can get similar power with more OBP from Kjerstad and Cowser with similar defense for Kjerstad and better for Cowser. So yes, I'd say they'll be better than Santander. -
Can we get Buster Olney, talking heads, and various posters to look in the mirror for their ridiculing Elias' "hoarding" prospects? The strategy has always been about raising the competitive floor/ceiling while managing risk like a portfolio manager. Seeking alpha while managing beta is the goal. Sig's purpose is the quantify. And yet we still have people tossing out trade proposals and extensions and unhealthy FA pursuits because they know better and moving prospects to other positions. It's fun to speculate but it's foolish to present it as an absolute. -

1) I’m saying that would be an example of being rushed and to me, it’s basically the only example. 2) I don’t think this has anything to do with being rushed. Rushed is putting a guy in a position where they can’t succeed because they aren’t ready. I don’t believe that happens. Holliday was clearly not rushed. Cowser was clearly not rushed last year. I think sometimes guys just come up and don’t play well…and then they get sent down and barring some dramatic difference in how they approach things (ie switch mechanics, etc..), I think they just come up and just simply play better. There is a fine line between being bad and being good. Lots of factors are involved in that. Rushed isn’t one of them. Rushed is a term people use because it sounds good but it’s a made up thing. Guys don’t get rushed especially with the service time rules being what they are. -
Interesting to see Elias's draft pecking order playing out in the priority of new additions to the roster. Heavily leaning on the #1's, while the others wait in line. Observe the departed ones too (Ortiz, Hernaiz), lower down the ranks (and expect Mayo to be the exception). Granted, Stowers already had his initial shot too, but now sits in limbo. BTW, I notice both Mountcastle and Akin were former round 2's, and Hays and Baumann "suspects" at round 4.
