  1. Plus some outstanding plays at SS. With his team up 7-6 in the top of the ninth, runner on second with no outs, Grenier, lays down a perfect sac bunt to advance the runner to 3rd. (who later scored). Also, in the 8th, he singled and later scored on a double from 1st base to tie the game at 6. The kid is definitely a ball player. I just hope he hits enough to be an every day player.

    Orioles 2018 Draft Recap

Great write up Luke! One of the best articles and information I have ever seen here on the Hangout. Keep up the great work!!!
  3. Rodriguez has signed for $4.3mil. $75,000 under slot. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/06/orioles-agree-to-terms-with-first-rounder-grayson-rodriguez.html
  4. Roberts, playing RF today, just hit a 3 run HR in the first game of the Super Regional against Stetson and the #14 overall pick in this year's draft Logan Gilbert.

    2018 overall draft grades

As others have noted, I think we have to wait a few years before getting a true grade for this draft, not just who we sign and for how much money.

    2018 overall draft grades

With only two teams, the Cubs and Astros, receiving worse grades (C).
  7. Sounds like he's a backup plan in case someone like Knight asks for an outrageous amount of money. And as others have mentioned Knight really doesn't have much leverage to ask for a lot more than slot. I don't see our first two picks asking or getting overslot so I'm not sure who else would command more money.
  8. Awesome! Can't wait to hear his thoughts. Perhaps we can start a "gofundme" page to bridge the gap between his slot and asking price. 😉
  9. Will definitely take a few more zero's than the 100k allotted. MLB.com had him ranked at #63. Here is MLB's scouting report: Cecconi's summer started with a bang as he lit up radar guns at the Perfect Game National Showcase. He kept it up with a strong showing at USA Baseball's Tournament of Stars and made the 18U National Team's trial roster, though he did not make the final cut. And that was it, leaving scouts wishing they had seen more of the right-hander on the showcase circuit. Scouts had to wait even longer this spring to see the projectable high schooler at Trinity Prep outside of Orlando, as a triceps issue kept him off the mound until late April. He was up to 96-97 mph in those summer outings, and sat in the mid 90s without too much effort, though he wasn't close to that when he first returned to action this spring. He has the prototypical projectable build at 6-foot-4 with room to add strength. Cecconi throws two breaking balls, with scouts preferring his low-80s tight slider to his slow curveball, though he does show the ability to spin that as well. He has some feel for a changeup and stays in the strike zone fairly well with a quick arm and balanced delivery. Cecconi's summer definitely whetted scouts' appetites, though there was some concern over why he didn't participate in more events. There are still unanswered questions, the toughest one being what it will take to sign him away from his commitment to the University of Miami. The slot money for the #63 pick in the draft is $1,035,500. My guess it will take close to that to get him signed. Worth the risk in round #38.
  10. But can he act? Loved him in Baby Driver too.

    Best baseball movies

It has to be Million Dollar Arm. We just drafted the star of that movie in the 31st round.
  12. Not sure why we drafted him at SS. I heard he's got a "Million Dollar Arm".
  13. I loved him in Mad Men.

Best players available for Day 3

Yeah, thanks. I pulled this list from a few articles and realize that some of the players mentioned may have been already drafted. For example, one article mentioned Blaine Knight, who we selected in round 3.
  15. Below is a quick list of the "best" players available going into Day 3 of the Draft. Most of these players have gone undrafted due to signability issues. With the Orioles selecting Blaine Knight (asking for above slot) in the 3rd round, it will be surprising to see them select any of the players listed below. In a piece written by Steve Melewski today for MASN, Gary Rajsich did say "Maybe we can go after some guys that were unsignable on days one and two that we like. Maybe their figures change and we can go after some of those guys. Then around the 20th pick we could look to fill some needs that we have in the organization. We want players with tools that have a chance to advance." It was also mentioned in the article it is believed Rodriguez and Grenier will sign for below slot money, so hopefully some of that money will help us sign one or more of the above slot players still available. Georgia HS RHP Cole Wilcox (Georgia commit) (MLB.com rank: 19th, BA 37) Georgia HS RHP Kumar Rocker (Vanderbilt commit) (MLB.com rank: 23rd; BA 13) Florida HS SS Nander de Sedas (Florida State commit) (MLB 55; BA 28) Stanford RHP Tristan Beck (MLB.com rank: 35th) Pennsylvania HS OF Mike Siani (Virginia commit) (MLB.com rank: 40th) Texas HS RHP Adam Kloffenstein (TCU commit) (MLB.com rank: 43rd) Florida HS RHP Slade Cecconi (Miami commit) (MLB 63; BA 79) LSU OF Zach Watson (MLB 65; BA 66) LSU RHP Zack Hess (MLB 91; BA 87) Arkansas RHP Isaiah Campbell (BA 73; MLB 109) Texas Tech RHP Davis Martin (BA 119; MLB 153) I'd love to see the Orioles go for Nander de Sedas from MontVerde High School in Florida. The same HS as Francisco Lindor. He is signed to play for Florida State, but I believe is still signable for the right price.
