    '18-'19 Free Agency strategy

Forget Free Agents, take on other teams bad contracts in exchange for good prospects, we aren’t winning anytime soon, stock up on young guys

The Victor Victor Mesa/Sandy Gaston thread

Gross. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

I’m referring to Duq’s claim about investing in international scouting.

Imo, this organization has proven to be incompetent in almost every way possible. They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Peter is out and things will change for the positive. I certainly hope so. But until I see action, I don’t care what Duq, or Brady or any of the Angelos family say.
  5. I voted disappointed, not based off the prospects, but the situation itself. What could have been had they traded him at peak value when teams were overvaluing closers. Just sucks all the wasted value of Manny & Britton trades. As for the trade itself, seems like decent value considering the circumstances

    Schoop: Extend or Trade

That’s a lot of If’s. Other than Manny, our developmental system doesn’t have a great track record of guys reaching their potential I’ll believe it when I see it regarding international signings. Talk is cheap. I’m still waiting for that OBP priority that Duquette promised us he’d focus on. Also, are you saying Tim Beckham would be an everyday player for a contending team?!?!?!?
  7. This. Heads should have rolled after the disasterous off-season following the ALCS. IMO, that was our legitimate chance to win a World Series. Instead we got the Duq-Tor fiasco, let two of our key players walk and replaced them with absolute garbage. Started a trend of downright terrible free agent contracts. Traded away young pitchers for more garbage. All the while squandering the value of the one player who could bring back enough young talent to rebuild off of. 2016 was a group of pretenders who backed into a wildcard spot because of an abnormally hot start, when any rational person could tell that our one dimensional offense and lack of pitching had no chance in the post season. The wheels started falling off in ‘17 and by ‘18 the whole damn car fell apart. Brady doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Duq’s talking like he’ll be back. Who knows about Buck. And we still have an Angelos calling the shots. Why would we trust anyone in this organization to right the ship?

    Schoop: Extend or Trade

I’m estimating 5 cause of our history of refusing to participate in the international market and I’m not a big believer in the prospects currently in our farm system (pre-Manny trade). If Duquette isn’t just blowing smoke and we really start to invest in international scouting than that would speed up the process. Other than Bundy, Gausman, Schoop, and the Bullpen (maybe Mancini, maybe Sisco) the roster has holes everywhere. Signing Free Agents has not been kind to us and we have the Davis albatross for 4 more years. So I’m looking at the draft and trading off a few MLB vets as being our only means of rebuilding until proven otherwise. Five years seems conservative considering it took 14 years the last time

    Schoop: Extend or Trade

Hard to say without knowing what’s being offered. I guess I’d try to extend him at a team friendly salary for a couple years hoping he’ll reestablish value. Then trade him if his value goes up. Now that Manny is gone, there’s really no point in keeping Schoop as I think we are 3-5 years away from contending. If it were me, I would have made a sign/trade decision on Manny 1-2 seasons ago, so it would have been a no brainer to sell high on Schoop coming off his career year.
  10. Nah, I’m done giving this administration the benefit of the doubt. I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then this is just lip service to try and calm the angry masses after trading Manny.
  11. 100% agree. It wreaks of lawyer Angelos to try a squeeze out every Arb year instead of using those Arbitration years as leverage to lock up your key guys long term.
  12. I’m certainly not in favor of giving him an A-Rod contract that cripples the team, but I 100% blame the FO/Angelos for allowing us to get in this position in the first place. With a player of Manny’s caliber, they should have set a deadline 2-3 seasons ago where they either lock him up long term or trade him to maximize the return. Absolutely ridiculous that they dwindled his value down to rental player status. Even in “win now” mode, the return from a player like Manny in his prime would have gotten you some MLB ready top prospects.

Machado to the Dodgers, 5-1 deal

So we get 1 organizational top 10 prospect and it wasn't even their best guy. I just threw up in my mouth.
  14. I disagree, when we failed to capitalize on the 2014 season and missed the playoffs in 2015, they should have made it a priority to either sign Manny long term or maximize his trade potential. The worst thing that happened to this franchise was making the wildcard in 2016. Even a die hard fan could look at the way that roster was constructed and think we were trending towards a championship caliber team. No pitching and a one dimensional offense. Hard to fathom that the Erik Bedard trade will probably have a greater impact than trading Manny.
  15. I disagree. Since they lost the ALCS to the Royals, minus the super hot April, they were playing .500 ball. Our last real shot at being a contender was 2015 before the Duq/Toronto disaster offseason. It’s been downhill since then.
