  1. Tanaka is a talented pitcher, but is not really on Darvish's level. Yu got screwed royally.
  2. I am looking for either of the two Wieters stations for my girlfriend. Please PM if anyone has an extra.
  3. Made it to the 13th... Woke up at 7:30 and have a 17 hour day today. Relying on Oriole's magic to power through it.
  4. He also put up a .510 slugging for LA in the same year. I'm not saying he isn't done. All I'm saying is that I don't think anyone really knows for sure. I think there is always the possibility that he was just dogging it. If he has no motivation or desire to play, then he won't. I think that he knows this is his last chance, and I think this would likely be enough motivation for Manny to show up and hit.
  5. I know that I am in the minority here, but I really don't think this would be a bad signing at all. Think about it. Any team that signs him does so for a very minimal investment, likely $1M or less. He has to serve his 50 game suspension (much of which, I believe he can do while playing MiLB), which gives you time for the roster to shake out. The two main concerns about signing Manny would be: 1.) Can he still hit? 2.) Does he act like a jerk? Finding out the answer to these two questions is, IMO, certainly worth a minimal investment, especially given the incentive he has to be on his best behavior. If he acts out or he can't hit, we can cut him immediately with little sunk cost. If it turns out he can still rake, we can flip him at the deadline.
  6. Dumping salary for Cespedes? I'm reaching here though. It only looks like they are saving about $2M here (not including the savings of pushing another player out of the bullpen).
  7. Coming out of UB law, I guess I'll have the ceiling of Peter Angelos?
  8. So the question is... Did his parent's read the book? If so, why name him after the most worthless character? Maybe this is a pen name?:scratchchinhmm:
  9. Am I the only one who got the literary reference in the author's name?
  10. I recently dropped 50 lbs (25% of my body weight) in under 4 months while on a low carb atkins-style diet without even exercising. It was pretty incredible how the weight came off. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants drastic results quickly. There are a lot of misconceptions about a diet such as this so if anyone has any questions I'd be glad to clear them up.
  11. I personally like having a player on my team that everyone else in the league hates. Players like Greivis Vazquez and Alex Ovechkin are pretty much despised by anyone who follows their respective sports. The fans of their teams on the other hand, adore them because they do play with passion and do everything they can to help their teams win. The problem I have with Harper is that when they say that he has a sense of entitlement, I have doubts that he will be able to be told that he's not as good as he thinks he is, or that his natural talent will only take him so far. I'd love to take him with the third pick, but he definitely seems like less of a sure thing after reading the article.
  12. I definitely agree with this, but reading the quotes in the article, this seems to be a legitimate concern. He's obviously the best player in the draft, but being known as a "bad, bad guy" is definitely troubling.
  13. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/3306/what-we-mean-when-we-say-makeup I guess the only thing going against him is that he seems to be a real jerk. Does anyone think this will deter the Nats or Pirates from taking him? Would/should it deter us from selecting Harper if he is available?
  14. Good enough for me... Thanks Paul!
  15. Gosh, I normally don't subscribe to ideas like this without overwhelming evidence, but I really get the feeling you are right on this one. There seems to be some rift between the two, while Pie may be overzealous, firstly I don't think that can be considered a negative attribute on a team that is constantly criticized for unmotivated play, secondly Jones' reactions and noticeable snubs of Pie seem to be unwarranted. Perhaps Felix did or said something to Adam personally, we will probably never know, but it doesn't seem like Pie has a problem getting along with anyone else on the team (IIRC Scott and Pie are pretty close and Scott seems to be a great clubhouse guy), and he doesn't appear to reciprocate the cold behavior that Adam exhibits toward him. Doesn't really matter to me as long as it doesn't have an effect on their onfield performance, but from what I can see, from a social standpoint, Adam's wrong on this one.
  16. Although they seemed friendly enough when Felix got pied the other night.
  17. This is something I usually don't notice or care about, but this is the third time I have seen Adam seemingly give Felix the cold shoulder on balls that were close to them. I was at a game sitting in left field earlier in the year and they had a ball hit between them, which Adam caught, promptly gave Felix the evil eye, and jogged to the dugout... Maybe I'm imagining things?
  18. Wow... we really had a great draft when you look back on it... At the time I thought there was no way we would sign some of these late round guys and I had no idea how much money we were willing to go above slot to acquire young talent. Way to go AM!
  19. Is this the Trent Caleb mentions in his blog?
  20. Trading for Jones, Sherrill, Tillman, Scott, Albers... drafting Wieters, Matusz, Arrieta... extending Markakis. Also doing all this at a significantly less price than $423 million. Outside of this you're right... we have done nothing.
  21. Does this umpire understand that when a runner steals, the pitch is not automatically a ball?
