  1. Let's Help Dan

I keep envisioning a team doctor sitting down at a desk when one of these exams is over, opening a drawer with a big red FAIL stamp and a big green PASS stamp, the player's fate resting on which one he reaches for.
  2. Roch's latest blog is seriously depressing

Well said. And every once in a while, those veteran low-rent starters get flipped at the deadline for Jake Arrieta.
  3. Imagine Peter Angelos doing this

My take is that folks probably feel like if he's going to meddle and be the de facto GM, then he should also be accessible and accountable like a GM.
  4. Leaving Baltimore... possible?

This is the best answer yet. Expansion will soon bring teams to two worse markets than Baltimore. Neither Baltimore nor any other team will be moved to a third iffy market.
  5. Baseball Prospectus: Lo Cain

I like those guesses. I'd be inclined to say Arrieta to the Phils.
  6. It's not unreasonable to expect Machado might out-WAR McCutchen in 2018. It has already happened twice.
  7. Slow Offseason around MLB

You don't even need to disband Detroit. Fangraphs already has the All-FA team as the best team in baseball. Fangraphs WAR by Team
  8. Not sure why that would be. Age is hardly a factor when both guys are FAs in a year. Salary is similar (McCutchen a slight edge). WAR output has been similar (McCutchen a slight edge).
  9. The $16M is also not insignificant, particularly in the climate we're seeing right now around baseball. Not hard to imagine a team might prefer to have Machado for 1/3 of the regular season (plus all of the postseason) for ~$5.5M. Ultimately, I don't see a return similar to McCutchen or JD Martinez coming anywhere close to getting Angelos to sign off on. But that seems to be the market.
  10. Os requesting offers on Machado

Whether the answer is "no" "heck no" or "GTFO", not even answering the phone and/or failing to return messages is not a good look. Cripes that pisses people off playing fantasy football. Imagine having to deal with that as a general manager in MLB.
  11. Os requesting offers on Machado

Doesn't make a lot of sense for Arizona to add Machado but subtract Corbin.
  12. The Yankees Know The Orioles Want Two Starters

I'm cracking up imagining the conversation where Brian Cashman is selling Ellsbury on accepting this trade.
  13. Os requesting offers on Machado

I thought the Yankees are working hard to get below the tax line in 2018.
  14. Os requesting offers on Machado

If you've got a rental guy like Machado is, it seems to me you should *want* to deal him to a division rival. The guy is going to sign wherever he signs, and there's nothing you can do about it. So, better to weaken a team you play regularly (by raiding their prospect stash) than some team in the other league. Yet the conventional wisdom seems to be the exact opposite.
  15. Os requesting offers on Machado

Addison Russell isn't a guy you just add.
