  1. I am so sick of hearing about Chris Davis and how bad he sucks. However, i was thinking...and i apologize if this has already been brought up in one of the 12 Chris Davis sucks threads. But, is there anything in his contract that says that he can't be demoted. Or what happens if they DFA him. Obviously no one would pick him up. What if they were to do so, and he just said Nope! Don't want to do that, and decided to retire? Would we then be required to pay the rest of the contract? I'd give him 75 at bats in AAA, and if he is under 250, send him to AA. Another 75 at bats, under 250, A. Maybe that's not the message the Orioles want to send. Just spit balling here
  2. How about Haley Alvarez? Anyone ever heard of her?
  3. I gotta be honest, I’m going to the game tomorrow in Texas, and I can’t wait to watch this guy. I hope he mashes.
  4. Just FYI, Julio Pablo Martinez, which was the last big Cuba defector, actually defected in November of 17, and wasn’t declared eligible until March of 18. That’s 4 months for the mathematically challenged. We are coming up on 3 month mark for the Mesa brothers on when they defected. So we probably have another month or so before anything actually happens. No expert here. Just a few google searches
  5. This process does not seem like I has ever been a quick one. A quick google search of names like, Luis Robert, Yoan Moncada, Julio Pablo Martinez, and it looks like they all took between 3-5 months from the time they defected until the time they were declared a free agent. He defected in early May, so it has been about 2 and a half months. Could certainly happen within the next few weeks if it happens on the quicker side of history.
  6. Is it possible he was trying to get an indication of what team or teams he would waive those 10-5 rights to?
  7. Does anyone know if Victor Víctor ever played ball with Diaz in Cuba. They’re around the same age. Might help with the lack of relationship our organization has had. Although I did read something a few weeks ago that mentioned the orioles and victor victor or victor jr (brothers) in the same sentence. I’ll see if I can find it
  8. Sorry if this has been posted before. But since it has been a slow day with manny news, do any of you think that with sons seeming to be running things more and more, are there any chances that we will actually use some of the international pool this year? If the period hasn’t closed already. I’m curious to see if they may be waiting for MLB to post Víctor Mesa. It seems most if not all of the teams that had more pool money have spent most of theirs, leaving us with the most pool money. I could be wrong.

Thank you for the kind words gentleman. I have been reading this forum for years. Seems to be the most knowledgable. And like many of you, I'm a die hard Orioles fan. Unfortunately, I was born a few hours after our last World Series. So I'm hoping this is our year. Interested for the season and to see what future brings

Plus, and correct me if im wrong here, but ubaldo and hardy will be free agents after this season correct? does anyone think they will hold on to that money, give it to machado? or try again at free agency

Thank you very much sir. I appreciate that. I understand not wanting to pay big for unproven players. And even not wanting to add to payroll. With that being said, we are talking about taking chances. And haven't they done that in the past. Davis big contract. Ubaldo any contract at all. Taking Gallardo and losing a pick and then trading him away a season later. With the new CBA, do you think the international mentality changes at all?

Ladies and Gentleman, I just want to say hello from an undisclosed location in the hell that we call the sand box. As another baseball season is upon us, I sit at this computer once again getting all the Orioles information that I can from this very website and forum. Thank you all for all that you guys provide. Hoping ill get to watch a few more games this year than I have in past years. I have a couple questions that I was hoping someone on here could answer. I don't have a ton of time to go through all of the posts to see you if guys have already discussed this previously or not, so if asked already, my apologies. Here goes, 1. Why is it that the orioles never seem to bring in, or at the very least, try to bring in any of these young talented international players that everyone else seems to. I know last year we brought in Kim, and everyone has mixed opinions on him. Our money situation is obviously not great. But it seems like we don't even send anyone to scout them. At least I never read about it. For instance, the Cardinals just signed Jose Garcia to a minor league deal, with a 2.5 million bonus. Is this not something the Orioles can afford? Are we not sending scouts to see these guys? Or are we just looking at immediate help and aren't considering if they will have to be in the minors for a bit first? He's an outfielder. He gets on base. Has some pop. Runs good. Seems like he would have fit will. Now to my second, Do we have any scouts looking at Luis Robert. Scouts are all over this guy. He will require a heftier price no doubt. I guess im just curious as to why or how we miss out on these type players as often as we do. Is it JUST because money, or are our international scouts all on vacation? Thanks in advance
