  2. Jarman86. Just to let you know that your request was passed along and I am sorry to say that for various reasons I am going to have to deny it. While there is not a GCL series of cards produced (to my knowledge), you can still find through various sources player rookie level cards. Good luck on your endeavor. GB.
  3. I just play one on TV. Thank you Michael.
  4. I keep looking to see if the Florida Winter Baseball League will rise from the ashes but nothing yet. The league's website has dissappeared and the only thing that I can find that gives mention of a possible return is a small write up in Wikipedia that says the league will attempt a come back in October 2011.
  5. OK, I HONESTLY didn't know that Bluefield and the Orioles would be ending a 53 year affiliation and definitely didn't think I would be there to witness the two final games! So, enjoy the photos! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48004004403#!/photo_search.php?oid=48004004403&view=all or game#1: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2055454&id=1235989612&l=5ed0395194 game#2: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2055492&id=1235989612&l=8624df97f7
  6. I assume since the Orioles and Sarasota are sinking money into upgrading the fields and Buck O' Neil facility at Twin Lakes, the Orioles stay in the GCL is likely cemented for the time being (who knows really). Twin Lakes has lights. However; I was told a while back they don't meet the requirements set for league night play (since the fields are county property they can be used for other play like little league which apparently the lights meet the standards for that play). Other minor league facilities (the Twins, Red Sox and Rays I know off the top) don't have lights at all. In order to play night games at these locations they would have to play in the stadiums at these locations. The Rays have done this at times but they have to schedule around the Charlotte Stone Crabs, a Florida State League team, when they do. The Red Sox as far as I know don't use their major league facility during the GCL season and I don't know the working relation between the GCL Twins and Hammond stadium (which also has a FSL team the Miracles).
  7. I will enquire if they plan on replacing the lights at Twin Lakes since it is likely where the next years GCL Orioles home games will be played. The problem with playing at night for most of the teams here is that this would one cause a scheduling headache between the GCL and Florida State Leagues (FSL) (most of the other practice fields are not equiped for night games which means playing in a rated field, the ones already used by FSL teams). The another issue with playing night games here is the weather. Most of our thunderstorms hit around 5-7 pm which has caused havoc at times in FSL play. Unfortunately even with the sun going down it really doesn't make a huge difference in the heat and humidity. I think 12:00 games were decided due to the fact it gives the teams time to travel to their apponents fields and back and normally weather is not much of a factor (rain that is) during the 12:00-2:00 period that the games run.
  8. Well, all good things come to an end. Unless something happens, my final baseball photos of the 2010 season are posted on the OH Facebook page. I will continue to post updates on the construction at Ed Smith throughout the year so keep an eye out for those. Enjoy!
  9. From what I do know is no one is aware of any "construction" issues in cancelling instructional league play. As far as anyone knows there is no change in either work to be done on the practice fields or the club house at Ed Smith.
  10. I was down at Ed Smith today and still no update (regarding Instructional League that is).
  11. Unfortunately this doesn't confirm or deny the statement that Instructional League for the O's is cancelled for 2010 but I contacted the Sarasota staff and they were unaware of any cancellation. If I hear anything more I will pass it along.
  12. Both complexes are being worked. The Twin Lakes facility is gutted but the fields are untouched. It was my understanding that the clubhouse at Ed Smith would stay untouched till next year but that could be off and the reason for any cancellation.
  13. First I have heard this. Doc is normally spot on with his info but I will confirm with Sarasota tomorrow.
  14. Back to the GCL circuit. Photos of the 7/19 game at the Ed Smith complex are now on the OH Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48004004403#!/group.php?gid=48004004403&v=photos or http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2050524&id=1235989612&l=41be24924d
  15. Well, FINALLY got around to posting the last of the photos from my "Magical Mystery Tour" through Maryland and Virginia earlier this month. The photos from the night game at Ripken Stadium are now part of the OH Facebook page. I hope everyone enjoys the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48004004403&v=photos or http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2050475&id=1235989612&l=901f3898d7
