Referees Favoring the Favorites

Recommended Posts

When I was watching Ohio State play Northwestern, with the game unexpectedly going right down to the wire, the heavy underdogs (Northwestern) were getting screwed by the refs, badly.

MD shot one more FT than Duke and Duke was called for 1 more foul.

That doesn't mean that the game was well-officiated. If one team fouls a lot more than the other, then that's the way that they should call it, not "evening it up." It was a badly officiated game, mostly in favor of Duke.

Good for you then that the officials only affect the game in terms of fouls. And not things like calling timeouts when no one has possession of a loose ball.

I mean, that is how things are, right? ;)

This is very true...if you don't know the difference between what a foul is and what a foul isn't.

Its like the announcers said when the scrum for that one loose ball happened(when Mason called the TO without the ball in his hands).

Fans think things like that are fouls but they are wrong...they just don't know differently...this is another case of that.

I have no dog in this fight, but there was a play where Curry made a steal that rolled to the sideline and he passed to one Plumlee and then Singler followed his miss with a layup. Not only was the ball out of bounds when Curry got, but so was his foot.

I don't think his foot was OOB...It was close but I looked closely and it didn't appear that he was OOB...Plus, the official was right on top of it and looking straight down at his feet.

No. It's a case of you being strongly biased toward Duke. Anyone who saw this game knows that it was officiated poorly, as have been several other conference tournament games in the past few days. And you're pretty obnoxious, too.

I never said it wasn't poorly officiated...It was...on both sides. They would let them play and then they would call ticky tack fouls...it was too inconsistent.

But to act as if Duke got some kind of special treatment is an absurd point and one made with little knowledge of the game behind it.

Oh and I find it funny that you talk about my Duke bias but yet you are a UNC fan complaining about a Duke game. Give me a break.

As we've seen this very week, just because one or even multiple officials are staring directly at an error doesn't mean they will call it.

He stepped out of bounds twice. Plus Plumlee kicked the ball on that scrum. Those are the obvious calls I had a beef with.

I always find it funny that Duke fans will always concede a game was "poorly officiated" but never admit they got more than their fair share of calls. Actually, I do know a Duke fan that admits it and rubs it in peoples faces. But I'd rather have that than the complete denial you here form most of their fans.

Props to the OP for being a UNC fan and having the sack to adknowldedge the biased officiating even though you're a fan of one of the "big boys".

I feel like I suddenly walked into a Ravens/Steelers game thread.

It was a very badly officiated game, yes...and most of the calls favored Duke. However, if you're really saying that, from viewing this game, that the officiating crew has it out for the little guys, I don't know what to tell you.

How was the officiating the last UMD/Duke game? How about the game before that? I thought it was fine. Now, the third game of the season between these two teams...the refs suddenly decided to screw this team. For what purpose? Ticket sales? No. Viewership? No. To see Carolina/Duke III? Well...uh...look over there! A bird! (I kid...but to think about it...with all of the really good UNC and Duke teams over the last decade, I think they've only met once in the ACC Tournament. And I think Duke took their souls.)

I've always thought that Duke "getting the calls" was more a testament to K himself and not an attack on the refs. He's the one doing the talking, and he's the one training those guys. If the refs can't catch it...oh well. More power to him. That doesn't mean that I don't complain, because I do...and the egregious errors need to be legitimately called out. But you have to understand that you're saying that the refs are intentionally being unethical, and that's a bad road to go down.

(I...feel so dirty. I keep scrubbing, but I can't get clean!)
