Guthrie traded to Rockies for Hammel & Lindstrom

Recommended Posts

Who cares? The Orioles were going to win that arbitration hearing. I don't like this trade at all. I can't imagine this is all the value Guthrie has. The Orioles might as well hold onto him and hope he pitches well and see what his value is in July than take this deal.
I'm not defending the trade, all that I'm saying is that is one reason Duke may have been inclined to deal him.

Those people pulled him off the scrap heap.

Who said he hated him. He singled out DT and not Buck. Raised my eyebrows but ultimately doesn't mean much.
Specifically those people. Back then. Not now.

The thing is, what would this be a precursor to?

Johnson being dealt?

I don't see how you can connect any dots here.

It's not. I think it's a salary move mostly. In Hammel they get an extra year and a guy that could put up similar numbers to Guthrie at a cheaper price.

I know quite a few people wanted to trade away Guthrie. I wasn't one of them. I'm sorry to see him go. I guess i just he helps lead the Rockies to the playoffs. I am not a fan of this trade. I am not a fan of either of these guys, and i rather have a couple of AA prospects that aren't even in the Rockies top 5 then these guys.

I wanted to trade him, but for one or two decent young players.

#Orioles have designated LHP Clay Rapada for assignment to make room on 40-man.

Dumping salary for Cespedes? I'm reaching here though. It only looks like they are saving about $2M here (not including the savings of pushing another player out of the bullpen).

I don't like trading starters for relievers.. I get that Guthrie needed to be traded, but wow this as you look at it is pretty abysmal. Is there any room in the organization for Director of Player Trades - A. MacPhail.

Would much rather have had B and C level prospects. Just another example of this organization's lack of focused direction.

This is a dumb trade. I hope DD isn't done.

Oh really? I hope he IS done. Otherwise, we might hear "Jones dealt for Felix Pie and Ivan Rodriguez."

Wonder if we're trading Jones for Prado and Jurrjens next?

We do have an opening in the starting rotation...

I would think only if we are getting Young back in the Guts deal.

We do? Seems like Hammel is the replacement for Guts.
