Smith is a decent 4th/5th OF for now. He’s limited defensively and doesn’t really have a lot of speed.
Ruiz is on the team because we literally had no better options at 3rd. Alberto has earned time now, but Villar should be traded, and Martin should be in AAA next year. As of now, I see no better options to replace Ruiz next year.
Santander has been one of the best players in baseball the last 15 games, .918 OPS.
In a season where we need answers. I think it’s getting as close as it can get for us to call him a solution in the OF for the future.
2nd and 3rd and less than 2 outs is, depending on who's hitting, prime IBB territory. In many cases in the NL, walking the number 8 hitter while baserunners are on is the correct strategy.
There aren't many situations where it's correct, but then, IBBs aren't particularly common.
There are situations where it's okay to walk Mike Trout with the bases loaded. Not very many of them, but they exist.
