Dan Duquette: Os to Be Active in Trade Market

Recommended Posts

You don't think they would keep Ross over Roark?

Pray for Orlando. End the hate.

i would, but then again, I would keep them both, young arms are always needed, never know when TJ is going to strike.

Reading this, one would think you step into a time machine, and this is 2008 and the team is 20 games under .500.

If DD is so bad, how do you trust him now, to make the right trade for SP?

He's just having fun being fanatical about his hatred for Dan Duquette. I'm going to introduce them.

Ross is better, sure. But Roark won't net you an elite closer.

I agree on all points, but Roark is one of those guys who produces but doesn't get the respect I think he deserves - probably because people don't have high expectations for him - no matter how well he performs.

I can assure you, if the Orioles do try to acquire another pitcher, that they will empty out the farm. Not the 25 man roster.

And yet nobody cares but Corn....

Board policy says you can't have a different opinion of DD or you get trolled.

Pray for Orlando. End the hate.

Oh come on...that's pretty melodramatic.

It's not just DD. It's going against the grain in general. You get ridiculed and bullied. "That is tiresome"

Time to take some time away. This board is no longer fun.

Pray for Orlando. End the hate.

What kind of wacky comment is that? It's fine to disagree or even like Dan Duquette.

That's cool. See you when you get back.

In reference to becoming sellers should we start to fall in the standings, I don't see any way you trade Trumbo. Assuming he doesn't completely fall apart, he is going to get the QO. I dont see any team giving up a better prospect than a sandwich pick gets us. You also have to factor in the value of the 3 months of Trumbo we would be trading away.

The only time you trade a FA to be in season is if; A) The player is an elite player (Machado, Harper, etc.) that can get you a boatload of prospects, or B) The player is not good enough to warrant a QO at the seasons end.

And true. Any time anyone dare say anything bad about Duquette you're bombarded with "OMG BUT WE HAVEN'T HAD A LOSING RECORD" as if it's a black and white, cut and dry situation.

Great, we've had four years above .500. How many World Series have we won? Zero. Failure. There's more to competence as a GM than team record. Our scouting is terrible. Our player development is horrid. He has zero regard for the future of the franchise past the end of his tenure. For every good trade he's made, there's several poor ones. He's more concerned with making people think he's smarter than anyone than just doing what's best for the team. If status quo remains, he'll have ruined the future of this team almost as much as Syd Thrift did.

If we win a World Series I don't care if we ever win another game again and will give him a pass for giving me that moment, but as long as we're still chasing one he's considered a negligent failure.

I don't know.

I'm pretty critical and I don't get much blowback from anyone I respect.

Occasionly I do feel like I'm being ganged up on, but I'm pretty confident I'm in the right so I don't mind a good bit of the rough and tumble and I have changed folks minds over the years.

That's fair. It's cool to dislike Dan. The winning record stands for itself.

The market for SP's hasn't materialized yet and it might not. It's a thin FA class for Sp's. Shields already got traded. Doesn't look like much else is out there. Cashner?

Really the team that matches up best with us is the Rays. Lots of SP but they have a need for the bullpen. Usually teams that are battling for a division with one another don't make trades.

I don't think we're at the point yet where the Andrew Cashner types are better than what we have in the rotation 3-5.

We have to root for some teams to surprisingly fall out of races and make some guys available that nobody is talking about right now. Like a team like the Cardinals and Jaime Garcia. Something like that.

    • It’s already so far out of touch, I doubt fans care if a player is making $20 mm/yr or $40 mm/yr.    They’re already in a whole other universe.
    • First off, you were being condescending by making us sound like we were a no nothing blog, so stop with all of the hard-ache. Secondly, if you are in baseball and you don't take as many opinions as you can then I would look inward at yourself. Scouts outside the organization have zero to gain by down grading a player to us. The guys I talk to I've had relationships for years. They are an opinion to be added in with other opinions within the organization as well as our scouting. You are 100% correct that opinions are just that. I'm completely fine with anyone having a differing opinion than me, and I don't take offense at someone who says that they don't agree, but there is absolutely no need to disparage someone's opinion as being lesser because you don't agree. I've been doing this for 20 plus years. That doesn't make me infallible or never wrong, but I'll lay my process down against anyone including professional baseball people. That doesn't make me right, but it sure should mean I deserve a little respect and don't get called "blog pages ", whatever the heck that means. It doesn't matter what the team has in store. I feel his most likely outcome is a platoon outfielder because of his inability to hit lefties. Doesn't mean that he might not improve or a team might live with it and play him every day,
    • That's a hell of a prediction.  These defenses font strike me as good enough for a game like that.   That said, I fully expect McCarthy to outcoach the ever loving hell out of Harbaugh.
    • 1965 = 4,658 / 1.77 1975 = 8,631 / 2.59 1985 = 16,823 / 5.66 1995 = 24,706 / 13.14 2013 = 44,888 / 23.89   Ref: http://roadsidephotos.sabr.org/baseball/earlyticketprices.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_Indexed_Monthly_Earnings
    • Hate this rule more than any other in baseball.
    • Must be traded during the season.  So next year Dan trades the pick to try and buoy a mediocre team.  The gambit fails but Dan tells us it's okay because they should have some picks coming from Manny and Jones walking.
    • Have to wonder where it ends? Huge supply of fans willing to spend their money, but how many more price increases are they willing to stomach before they just lose interest? Hard to re-ignite the flame once gone. I'm just guessing here, but it would seem to me that the price of a ticket and all the associated costs to attend pro sporting events has far outpaced the increase in wages in recent years (last 10-20 years?). Haven't done the research, just going off of gut feeling.
