With 17 games to play....

Recommended Posts

....our pitchers already have allowed 17 more runs than they did all of last year.

The starters are +7, and the bullpen is +10.      The difference is, the starters are worse than a rotation that was already terrible, whereas the bullpen is worse than a bullpen that was excellent.

With 17 games to play, there's a pretty good chance that we end up allowing 100 more runs than last year.

We're screwed. Odd numbered year.

The good news is, next year is even numbered.

Runs allowed by year during our run of competitive baseball:

2012: 705

2013: 709

2014: 593

2015: 693

2016: 715

2017: 732 and counting

Well, we won't top 2011 (860), anyway.

Well, that would only be 128 runs or 7.52 per game...2011 is not likely, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.

2015 was a pretty good season for the Orioles, who went 85-77 overall.

Not making the postseason was disappointing, but it was better than the 2015 season in which the Orioles went 81-81. It also confirmed that the seemingly magical 2012 season was not a fluke.

Curiously since 2012, so goes Chris Tillman, so go the Orioles. Tillman had solid seasons in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016 (all solid overall seasons for the Orioles.)

He had a bad season in 2015 (the Orioles' 81-81 season), and a horrible one in 2017 (71-74 with 17 games left to play.)

Thats why this sudden argument that Wade Miley may have to come back for the bargain rate of $1 is an ass argument to me.  Him, Tillman, and Ubaldo all need to be somewhere else next year.

Have the starters or bullpen allowed more home runs or given up more walks than last year?

Just curios because control seems like a BIG problem this year.

The team has been much more homer-prone:

Starters: 142 vs. 126 all last year

Relievers: 73 vs. 57 all last year

They have not exceeded last year's walk totals yet, but will pretty soon.

I really thought there was no way the starting rotation could be worse than last year.

Could next year's rotation possibly be worse than this year?

Scary thought

Yes, that was the key. The Orioles are the team that gave up the most homeruns this year, if I am not mistaken.

Just a complete mess throughout the entire staff. The story of the season.

Get Miguel and Cobb, and maybe keep Miley. Or get rid of Miley and get someone like Lance Lynn.
