Oh woah is you. Guess you’re going to have to suffer through a team that wins 85 games next year.

You think the Nats only win 85 next year?

If you can’t win 85 games in the NL east you should be relocated to Montreal.  They’re an up and coming market.

We’ll be alright next year. Everyone needs to stop crying. Now after 2018 I can’t make any promises.

I could see Epstein offering that. Russell is a natural piece to include in a Machado deal. Almora Jr. is a good defensive outfielder, but they have depth there. And they aren't relying on Montgomery to be in their rotation. I bet Chicago thought it could convince Machado to sign with them more easily if he had spent a year playing with Rizzo and Bryant. And if it doesn't work out, they still have Javier Baez to play short in 2019. It makes sense from the Cubs perspective.

He doesn't know any offers.   Someone just told him they weren't as strong as some suggested.   Roch knows as much as they want him to know, which is close to nothing.   Roch's got a good gig.   No heavy lifting.

Cheap shot. Reporters can only find out what they are told. It's not like he can file a FOIA request to get the exact players offered.

So you think Roch counts as a reporter?

I know he does.

The common notion on here that he a mouthpiece of the team is petty and uninformed...which is what makes a message board a message board.

He gave up 15 yeas for a couple months of Chapman and their top prospect in Torres.

First, the only prospect who was worth anything given up was Gleyber, no one cares about Billy McKinney his stock was so far down when he got traded. Also, when you haven't won a world series in over 100 years and you're 1 piece away and that one piece is already sitting behind Baez/Russell of course he made the trade. That pressure to win is gone and you wont see anyone make that kind of offer again.

He's effectively paid by the team.

Roch in his latest tweets says the Cardinals have definitely pulled back but other teams are still "hovering." O's will continue to plan as if Manny is an O but aren't shutting the door.

The obvious answer is that they can't get Harper until 2019 and they can get Manny, albeit for one year, now.   I agree.   I'm very skeptical that they offered that.   Montgomery and Russell alone is plenty for Machado.   If they actually offered all three and the Orioles turned it down, they should be imprisoned for impersonating baseball professionals.

The Cubs have the luxury of overpaying now and still having plenty of talent/depth on hands, plus money to spend on FA's.    They are in on Darvish so trading away Montgomery won't hurt them.   Machado is an upgrade over Russell.    Heyward moves to CF or Happ to the OF?

They really don't. If they sign Darvish and go after one of Machado/Harper they're pretty much capped until 2021 unless they want to start giving up all their draft picks.

McKinney was the number 74 prospect in baseball comming into the 2016 season when he was dealt in July of 2016.  He was 21 playing in AA at the time.  This year in AAA he hit .306 with a .346 bop and .877 at age 22.  If he put up numbers like that in our organization we would be estatic to add him to the major league team this year.

Agree with the last point.    Epstein had to go for the jugular.   He had a  great team with one weak spot, that he turned into a strength.

So, show evidence that he carries their water.   There are plenty of times that he seems at odds with the direction or moves of the team.  The guy works hard and if he were fire could get plenty of other gigs.

Yeah, he could join Dan Connolly.
