Anyone Following Manny? (Signs with San Diego)

I can honestly say I don't care at all where he ends up.  I care about the Orioles first and foremost, as well as the Braves since I live in Atlanta.  Manny stopped mattering to me at all once he no longer wore our uniform.  I certainly understand others feeling differently and I always appreciated the work he did for us on the field, but for me, I just never got attached to him as a personality I enjoyed rooting for....

I care but it isn't because he's a former Oriole.

I have no doubt that if he had played in Baltimore he would have been elevated to near deity status.

Like Brian Roberts

His first seasons before the injury were the best defensive seasons I have seen at 3B ever.

Prior to the injury and the bulk--I agree.  (33 y/o, following MLB since 1992)

He is a great player with a not so great personality. He was great to have on our team but now that he’s not, it’s not much different from how much I appreciate guys like Trout or Harper. Great players but not my team. I’ll watch the highlights.

If he ends up in NY then he will undoubtedly become a villain here in Baltimore. That’s okay with me but I hope he signs with Chicago south or Phillies so I can still kinda root for him when appropriate. It’s never appropriate to root for a division rival.

According to MLB trade rumors, Manny doesn't want to play in Philly. I think him going to the Yankees is a done deal. Can you imagine him in the Yankees lineup? Makes me absolutely sick. Talk about an all star lineup.

Please understand that MLB Trade Rumors doesn’t have any inside information and does no original reporting.   They just regurgitate what was printed elsewhere.   In this case, I believe the source is a NY-based reporter who stated, without citing any sources, that neither Harper nor Machado seemed enamored with Philadelphia.    He may have a basis for saying that, or it may just be a NY reporter’s somewhat biased speculation.    In any event, let me know when we have reports of the financial offers made by the teams.   If the Yankees offer 10/$275 and the Phillies offer 10/$330, my guess is Manny suddenly will be quite enamored with Philadelphia.

We are so far from contending that I don't even care if he goes to MFY's.  Won't sting nearly as much when Mussina signed.  I still haven't gotten over that one.

Having the Braves as your second team must be interesting nowadays.  They're pretty much the Southern Orioles at this point.

We were pretty far from contending when Mussina left.   We’d had three consecutive losing seasons and had traded away most of our best players at the trade deadline that year.    Honestly, when I look back at it objectively 18 years later, it probably didn’t make sense to keep an Ace who might add an extra 5 wins to a 70-win team.    But there’s just something about knowing you have a great chance to win every fifth day, no matter who the opponent is and how bad your team is.    As a fan, you can suffer through a lot when you have that to look forward to.

I'd take the world's tallest hobbit, Pedroia, any day over Roberts.

Roberts was nothing to sneeze at, but I agree.    Great player and a gritty leader.

Exactly.

The Phillies' owner promised to throw around Stupid Money this offseason to bring in the best team possible. Lots of speculation about Machado AND Harper. Not that it's likely, but that's the kind of money that they have to spend in the land of Brotherly Love.
