Reminder: Lunar Eclipse tonight!

Recommended Posts

I put this thread on the Orioles board for max traffic. I'll delete it later.

Just a reminder that a FULL Lunar eclipse is a couple hours away. The peak is at 12:12, technically Monday. Should start to see the moon turn red or orange about 10:00 or 10:30. I know it'll be late as hell for most of you, and it's bloody cold out! But it's perfectly clear and this is the only total eclipse this year in N. America. Don't know when the next one is. Bundle up and go out and have a look!

  • Thanks 1

Full on now! About a third of the way across. I'm pretty excited because the only other Lunar eclipse I can remember seeing, I was 4 or 5 years old and didn't even know what we were looking at, but mom and dad were excited so I was too. First one I've ever seen that I knew what it was.

Not what I expected either. I thought it would just blur in color getting orangeish. It's really looking like a solar eclipse. You can see the curved shadow creeping across it. Turning it almost black. This is going to be so cool in an hour! :excited:

The moon is full so it's so bright I got my sunglasses out of the car to see it better. Really helped.

Tried taking a pic with my phone but exactly what I expected, white blob, no detail at all.

I hope you enjoy it. ANd if you ever do get to travel to see a full solar eclipse it will be a life highlight.

I saw the solar eclipse 2 or 3 summers ago, with welding glasses. Very cool! I've seen 4 or 5 solar before, with welding glasses or thru 2 CDs. DON'T try that at home! 😛

12:12 is what I saw. Full hour left. Getting better by the minute.

Will be full by 11:41. Like 80% now.

If it's 11:41 it will be full for over an hour. Unlike a solar eclipse that is full for like 3minutes.

Wow this is amazing.  I am on my mountain top in WV with no light pollution and this is one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen.  Just breathtaking.

It is! I have to shield my eyes from a street light but amazingly clear.
