Here are the current standings... updated as of the All Star Break: Win % is the key, not Games Back. Also, because they've played fewer games than either the O's or Royals, it's a bit funny to see Detroit 3 games back, but closer to us than KC. :)

Tigers won yesterday. This is race is really getting serious. The good thing about this is that KC/Det are in the same division and play each other 7 more times. We play at Detroit for 4 in mid September and really need to play hard to get swept. We have 6 games remaining against KC, same thing.

Those games will be huge.

In my perfect world, we build a sizable lead in the standings for the top pick, then go on a tear in September when young guys are up, still ending up with the top pick for 2020, but showing momentum that may carry into next season.

We’re really choking right now. We need this #1 pick. I’d rather have the choice of Hancock/Wilcox and not just whoever falls to us.

We need the FO to make some moves at the trade deadline so we can win this race.

Also, Miami is creeping into the race.

Givens will go soon. His numbers and everything look good, someone will bite.

Francisco Jimenez struck out a pair of batters in 1 2/3 innings, while Brian Gonzalez worked through two clean frames. Zach Muckenhirn completed a perfect ninth inning to wrap up a solid relief effort.   The Maryland Crab Cakes make their debut when they and Altoona square off in the penultimate home game at Prince George’s Stadium Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Michael Baumann (4-2, 2.31 ERA) faces LHP Cam Vieaux (3-3, 2.27 ERA).
