An All New 'I Was Wrong' Thread

Many things but two would be 1) I thought Mullins would hold down CF and OPS over .700 and 2) that Hess would lead the team in wins.

Be honest as to your Orioles player/manager/management views or predictions that have come back to prove you wrong.

I'll begin. Before the season, I was pretty sure that Cedric Mullins or Austin Hays would be our starting center-fielder no later than the All Star break. I Was Wrong.

Mullins has been so bad this year he was just demoted to AA Bowie. Hays has battled injuries and is rehabbing and hopes to get healthy and back to pushing for a promotion.
I still hold out hope that they'll be a productive part of our future... with Hays having the bigger upside.

What is your 'I Was Wrong'?

FWIW, here's the original thread, started at the All Star break in 2008!

I thought Mullins was close to being ready for the bigs. I don’t know what happened to him.

I was for the Chris Davis signing in January of  2016 ........ but prior to that, I also I wanted Mark Reynolds back as our regular 1st baseman in between the 2012 and 2013 seasons because I thought that he was considerably better at 1st Base defense than was Davis (he certainly was in the 2012 season, as Davis was atrocious on defense for the first 1/3 of that season before Showalter moved him to the DH position and handed the reigns over to "The Toe.") If the Orioles had brought back Reynolds and kept Davis as primary the DH way back when, perhaps they would not have severely overvalued Davis when he came up for free agency like they did.

Oh yeah ........ I was against the Erik Bedard trade back in February of 2008.

Very good question. I’m honestly trying to think about my own assumptions incorrect assumptions about the upcoming season...

I thought Gilmartin would make the team out of camp but that’s too minor. I thought Jackson would stick, still unhappy he didn’t. I thought Wynns would be a lot better than he was. I don’t say “has been” because that implies that he’ll ever get another chance and I think that ship sailed.

I didn’t think Sisco’s offense would compensate for his defense. He sure looks a lot better now but still too SSS for a Mea Culpa just yet.

I’ve been wrong about so many things they are too numerous to count:

- I thought the Cobb signing was good.

- In May 2017, I thought Bundy was becoming an ace.

- I thought the O’s made the right choice by allowing Markakis, Cruz and Miller to go and prioritizing JJ Hardy (on the assumption that the O’s really couldn’t afford to keep more than one of them).

- I thought Austin Hays would be a solid major leaguer by now.

- After the 2016 season, I was in favor of trying to lock up Chris Tillman.

I think I’ll stop there.

I honestly felt that Anthony Santander was going to be nothing more than bottom-of-the-roster fodder for this team. In fact, I expected him to be returned to Cleveland – full disclosure, I actually thought that Aneury Tavarez would be the ’16 Rule 5er who stuck.

If we're talking about right now, it couldn't be anybody but Cedric Mullins.  Even if he didn't hit consistently, I thought the defense would be top quality to make up for it.  We got neither of those things.  I can't think of an Orioles prospect in recent memory with such hopes that has fallen so far so fast that wasn't because of injuries.

So then you were right...

I never thought the Orioles would be ran properly while Peter Angelos was the owner.

Since he is still the owner that definitely means that I was wrong.

I had just about given up on Sisco after last year's debacle and his poor showing from AAA or higher. Saying that, the balls are juiced and he looks much stronger and bigger this year. Hard to account for stuff like that. Still, he's having better at bats than last year so it's looks like more than added strength.

I thought Scott would have locked down a spot in the bullpen and I definitely didn’t expect the Mullins collapse.

I was okay with giving Tillman a one year deal to try and reclaim himself after the disaster that was 2017.  Despite every piece of evidence to the contrary, I legitimately believed with an off season to get healthier and maybe dumb hope, he couldn't possibly get any worse.  Oops.

Me too, I didn't think Sisco could hit any level of breaking ball and I was sure ML teams would never throw him a FB

Don't watch the games but I'm very surprised he has even had a short period of success. He has even hit a few curve balls, although I am still shocked that anyone throws him even a single FB
